*•* Dirty Wheel *•*

Well I've been trying to think of a way to save my original steering wheel on my Cub Cadet 73 and googled steering wheel wrap and came up with the paracord idea. So went to the ole box store and got me 60' of green yellow and black stripped paracord 1/8 thick and started to wrap it. I saw a video on YouTube of a guy wrapping his fishing net so I did it the way he did and it turned out really good. My steering wheel had chunks of rubber missing off it and just didn't look appealing to the eye. So if you have a bad looking steering wheel this may work out for you.

Looks good, it would look better without the green! :biggrin2:

TripleThreat 10-08-2015 08:45 PM

I knew that comment was coming about the "green". I like it turned out good to me.

Just get a new/different wheel.....

TripleThreat 10-08-2015 08:59 PM

I spent $5.40 on the paracord and a new wheel is around 30-50 that I've seen. I like the $5.40 better.

and if you get caught in a survival situation while your mowing the grass it may save your life.:biggrin2: sorry i couldnt resist. its a good idea, id like to hear how well it holds up in the long run.

That is a labor of love if I ever saw one. How long did that take?

I had a 70 with a dirty wheel, they used black rip cord, funny thing it was perfect under the cord when I took it off

TripleThreat 10-08-2015 09:33 PM

Ya time will tell how long it will hold up. It took me about 45min- 1hr to get it all done. I figure I can always replace the rope it it gets bad.

I marked this thread for removal. Kind of surprised the mods haven't done it yet. This site is supposed to be family friendly and we have dirty pictures on it and of wheels, nonetheless! Seems like there is enough smut out there that we do not need pictures of dirty things or talk about them in the forum. :biggrin2:

An interesting mod and a solution to a common problem. Would be neater in cub colors, but funky to be kool like dat. Thanks for sharing this inexpensive solution. I like the steering wheel covers in the automotive section, but yours looks tighter and will probably last longer.

I would hope so, but I'm uneducated on actually practicing the art and have seen some dudes spend insane amounts of time elaborately braiding knife handles and stuff.

Anyhow. I think it looks cool and I actually like the green. All my cubs do is murder green (wallet and grass) so it seems legit to me.

zippy1 10-09-2015 12:37 AM

That'll work, thinking all the time. Could have soaked the cord in die if you wanted it black or...:bigthink:

TripleThreat 10-09-2015 07:45 AM

Sorry guys ya it took me 45min -1hr to wrap it all. I bought 60' and maybe had about 15' extra. They have black but it looked boring to me and I wanted to do something that stand out.

finsruskw 10-09-2015 08:20 AM

Geesh you guys are cheap!!!

Couda been worse, like a dirty seat!!:biggrin2:

When you have 14 month old triplets and trying to redo a cub you learn very quickly on what to spend money on and what not to for the cub. Later down the road I can always change the wheel out easy to do.

jeepchicken5000 10-10-2015 07:17 AM

I made a chain steering wheel once because I couldn't find one and it wasn't to nice on the hands. I ended up wrapping electrical tape around the wheel and it didn't come off even after a couple years, id go that route so it matches better being black but the rope is nice to and ill keep that in mind, also helps when the wheels are old and turn your hands black.

Man, three 14 month old young-uns? Three?... Okay then, now I see where "TripleThreat" comes from. You are a patent man, can see how you could spend that much time wrapping a steering wheel:beerchug:

Absolutly!!! I have had 7 in diapers but only one at a time!! :Bowdown2:

TripleThreat 10-12-2015 08:20 AM

Yup that's how I came up with the name. I think I would be spoiled if I had one at a time. Three gets chaotic at times but wouldn't trade it for anything. The best is the questions we get asked when we are in public people can be so stupid.

cadzag72 10-12-2015 08:57 AM

Anyone asked you yet if they're all yours?

Bet you really appreciate that shop time when it comes around!

Oh, and you're gonna need some more 73's to make them all happy when they get older

TripleThreat 10-12-2015 09:31 AM

Shop time is my favorite time. Ya we get asked all kinds of questions like are they "natural" or "oh look two sets of twins" or "are they all the same age" most frequent is like you said "are they all yours" or "God bless" or "can i take their picture" or " how can they be triplets if there is a girl" btw we have two boys and a girl just so you get the last one. There are probably more but cant think of them. I have become quite good at coming back with comebacks to these questions.
