New 1650 owner in central Ohio
Hi,
Glad to be part of the group. I've been looking for a good (old) garden tractor to take care of odd jobs like snow removal and trailer pulling. After a couple of months of looking at craigslist postings of almost every garden and lawn tractor made I started to gravitate towards the Cub Cadets. After spending time on this forum I sprung for this nice condition 1650 I found on my local Craigslist. It has the dual hydro controls and a mower deck. It runs pretty well, but I think it will need the modified engine mount treatment. The hydro levers are stuck but after scouring the posts here it sounds like some PB Blaster and some gentle hammer taps on the hydro block might fix the problem. Other than that, if I can just find a QA42A snowthrower I should be set for winter. :) http://onlycubcadets.net/forum/pictu...pictureid=6525 |
Hello and welcome! Quiet lines are my favorite series and the 1650 is an awesome tractor. I have had my eye on that one from the Columbus area for a few weeks now. I am glad someone who appreciates older IH Cub Cadets owns it. BTW, I have a QA42 snowblower that is in excellent shape if you are interested. Have fun with the 1650!:beerchug:

It was all the love for Quiet Lines on this forum that convinced me it would be a good buy. So far I'm not disappointed. As soon as I had it off the truck I mowed an acre, ran it up and down the road a couple times, and took it up a steep grade in front of my house. It handled everything like a champ.
You have my attention concerning your QA42. |
Glad you are enjoying it! I will post pics of the QA-42 early next week. :)

Welcome! You will find some great help and conversation here.
I really like the Quietline series of Cub Cadets, and it looks as if the one you just scored is in very good condition. Those motor mounts are important in the Quietline series of tractors. Once you get your fixed, they will be good for a very long time. There are many theories on ISO mounts (that is what they are called). I have mine and others here have theirs, so there s lots and lots of help. Mainly, just enjoy that tractor! I hope you like yours as much as I enjoy mine. |

:IH Logo::Welcome2::IH Logo: Congratulations on the 1650 :beerchug: |
Thank you bkw3614 and Diz Jr. I have no regrets about buying this 1650. With the help of this forum I know I can fix any problem that might come up. I sold a little JD 100 lawn tractor earlier in the week to help with the purchase of the 1650. I have an old 54 Ford NAA that I inherited from my granddad. I use it to run a flail mower and light grading. I have a Gravely zero turn for the rest of the mowing. This 1650 will take care of everything else.
I was happy to see that I can trace some of the mechanical heritage of my 1650 back through the old red Farmall Cubs that I've always wanted. |
Good luck with your new tractor. Looks like the deck is in good shape, still has the grass deflector on it.

Welcome to OCC! That mechanical heritage is why I'm collecting them
There is a guy about 1/2hr from me that won't part with his 1650. I know it has not moved for a long time. Congrats on yours |
Thank you twoton and Terry C! Here's an update. With some WD-40 and some gentle leverage against the tops of the valves, I was able to free up the dual hydro controls. They work great now!:biggrin2:

https://columbus.craigslist.org/grd/5184505153.html Was it this one? I've had my eye on this for a few days but couldn't go up there from Cincinnati. I've been looking for a 1650 or similar for a while because I need a tractor for working at my family's farm.

That post is down now, but that was probably it. The only in the area now is one in Lancaster for 300 but has a bad hydro pump. The one I bought had been posted for about a month.

Hello from another new member with a 1650.:beerchug: Oh that's awesome that you got one with the dual hydro controls. It is the one thing I have been looking for to add to mine instead of the single stick that I have. It would come in really handy for me as I use a plow on mine all the time. For the dirt and gravel I move not to much, but I am going to put it into snow removal duty also. I don't need a snowblower personally, but would pick one up if i found one in good condition. I have a Suzuki King Quad 700 that I use for snow removal, but I am going to use the 1650 also for fun. That and my son and I can plow together now and get more done. I have neither a plow or snowblower for my old JD318 so it was nice that my 1650 came with the plow. If we get a real heavy snow I use my Ford 3910 with the FEL,,no not the most efficient way to move snow but it works for moving big snow piles if I need to. Your 1650 looks like it was well taken care of and kept inside also. Congrats on your purchase! I thought mine might have needed the engine mounts replaced and modified also, but the K341 is a shaker more so than others. Some minor vibration at idle I believe is normal for these from what I have read. I smoothed mine out considerably after I rebuilt and tuned the carburetor, as well as cleaned out the fuel tank and tank screen on the fuel valve. Also a tune up helped allot as well with a new plug wire, plug, points and condensor. It is singing super smooth and quiet now. Surprisingly it runs much quieter than my neighbors new twin cylinder mower does. Have fun and put that good old IH to work!

Thank you 1977IHCC1650! I was checking the muffler. It wiggles a bit. I need to tighten up. It would probably help to do all the fuel system clean up like you did. I met up with DeltaCub (bought her QA42) and she gave me a bunch of good advice I need to follow through on.

Hi welcome to OCC I also have a duel control 1650 they are good tractors that after 35 years can have some issues but nothing that can'nt be fixed relatively easy I love my 1650 and will never sell it

Welcome to the site. I have a 1650 but did not have a mower deck so I put my Haban Sickle Bar mower on it. I have a play date today at a buddy's pond. Maybe I can get someone to take a few action shoots.
