My son

I know this isn’t cub related but it is general talk so here goes. All three of my boys have gone through almost all of the Boy Scout program. We have had a lot of great times together through the program and are proud of the fact (I think) that our Troop is the only Troop in Massachusetts that is chartered at a gun club. Not only do we have access to almost 200 acres of open space, forests, lakes and ponds and streams but also the ranges and the club house. Our club is also adjacent to a 2000 acre state forest.

Well enough about that , what I really want to say is that my middle boy, 17 years old, just completed his Eagle Scout project today. His project was to clear the brush, trees and debris from a historic grist mill, that dated back to 1750, so archeologist could begin their work of unearthing the original foundations, and to construct and install a sign bringing attention to the historically important site. A few pictures;

That was cutting the mortises for the sign frame and chiseling them out and here is shingling the roof for over the sign and setting the roof on the sign frame with me and his younger brother;

And here he is with the finished product along with a representative from the club;

Well done.

As an Eagle I want to congratulate both you and your Son. This is something the both of you can be very proud of.

My son just earned Star and is pushing hard to earn Eagle before he turns 16. His goal not mine.

As a fellow Eagle Scout... Congratulations!!! Job well done.. Obtaining Eagle Scout is a huge accomplishment.
I belong to the Eagle Scout class of 1986!

That's a great project, nice work! I'm a Life scout and hope to reach Eagle before I turn 17

twoton 08-01-2015 08:08 AM

Thanks guys for all the kind works, I am very proud of him. One of the things he said that he had learned from his project," you have to have faith in the people that you're working with, you have to be nice to them and not yell, then they will respect you and want to help." That really struck a cord with me.

Thanks,

GTKid, great job at Life!, and I see you're into other stuff too, like Cubs! It's good to have you around here on OCC. We need more young men here to give us a different perspective on things, that's important.

You going to camp this summer? We're leaving tomorow, should be a great week.

Thanks,

That's awesome! I completed my Eagle Project back in May and just went through my Eagle Board of Review last week. I recieved a certificate upon completing the Board of Review stating I am an Eagle Scout, however, I have to wait until "National" reviews my papers before I can officially recieve the rank. My project was building an observation plaform for our High School's band director to watch the marching band during practices.

Congratulations on earning this rank. These are the accomplishments that indicate a boy perseveres and strives toward while becoming a man of honor. Truly one of those times that takes a father's breath away.

Another one

So, some of you may remember seeing one of my boys in this post;

http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...7&postcount=28

Well, for the last two months he and his older brothers have been competing in various high school level marching band competitions around New England. This past weekend they took first place in the New England states finals in New Britain, CT on Saturday and in Lawrence, MA on Sunday. This Saturday they will ”bee” competing at Met Life stadium for the National championship. Here is a clip of my youngest during Sunday nights show;

I second the SAFETY GLASSES idea, my boys 10 &12 went out sunday morning before I was up and dressed and decided they were going to split fire wood...

I guess he was in mid swing with godevil and my pup walked in front of him so he tried to abort his swing and let go of the fiberglass handle and the head hit the block just right(wrong) and the end of the handle split his eyelid!! So by 8 am sunday morning he had 7 stitches in his eyelid!! I told him he will always have a reminder to listen to his dad! The boys really do a good job splitting the blocks after i bust them in half, was actually going over to my local ace hardware store sunday after breakfast to buy them their own godevils because they like helping so much but mom put the kabosh to that idea!!

twoton 11-03-2015 05:40 PM

Glad it was just the eye lid and he's ok. That's a warning he won't forget.

Ouch!! Glad it was just a few stitches in the eyelid.
