Wow! That was FAST!
I placed my order on Monday, got an email confirmation on Tuesday that my package would be shipped on Wednesday, and when I stopped at the house at lunchtime today a nice package was waiting for me!!

The only piece missing that I noticed on my initial look was the pin that connects the liftbar to the ram. I'll be going thru it with a little more detail after work tonite. By the way, is the bolt pattern the same for all cast iron rearend plates? ie: will a gear drive rear plate bolt right up to a hydro rear end? The offset of the plug on the gear drive plate looks to be positioned better to fab the PTO plate from. |
Yeah, the gear drive and hydro rear cover plates are the same. The only difference is the fill plug location.

Looks great, toyman! Can't wait to see them on your 982. The bolt pattern is the same for the CI rear ends. The only difference like you said, is the location of the plugs. :beerchug:

Ok, spent about 2 hours in the shop working on the rear cover. Heres what I have so far.

Looks like you're doing a good job. Can't wait to see more pics. I saved the Ruegg site for future use. Later this summer I'm going to look for a cat O for my 782. I may have to see if he's making them by then.

Just a question.Besides the PTO, are there any advantages over this company's setup over the one from extreme ?

Put the plug back in it and tack or weld it in. If it's a clearence issue....grind it flush and tack from the interior side.....or install from the inside and weld and grind flush on the outside....just skin'n the cat....

Around my area, I've seen more Cat 0 implements than Cat 1. The Super rear hitch is Cat-0 just like the standard GT hitch.

Ground the plug flush and tacked it from the inside. Got the rear plate done, primered and first coat of paint on it and the rear pto. Pics are coming later.
I can't comment on the Extreme hitch. (or the Ruegg for that matter as it's still sitting on the bench!) I just knew that I needed one that would work with the rear pto. I found out about the Ruegg hitch, rear pto and tiller within a day of each other. (The hitch was being discussed on another CC forum, and the pto & tiller were on craiglist) |

On the GT hitch there is a hole for the lift bar to exit the plate, I find this unacceptable and un necissary. The lift arms are mounted to the rear axle as they should be so pull is NOT transfered through the rear plate to the frame and then to the rear axle which in my opinion unnecissarily adds stress to the frame and plate. Also on the lift rods there is about an inch of float with gives you about 2"+ at the end of the lift arms. The GT hitch requires the use of the tractor rock shaft to allow float and therefor you cannot utilize the down pressure the Supers have. For my own purposes I've thought of using two '82' lift cylinders between the rear plate and the tranny cover for lift thus eliminating the lift rod altogether and eliminating all the stress on the frame. There are 'limited' cat1 implements that can be used on cat0. For example the BEFCO 40" tiller can be ordered 540 cat1 or 2000 cat0. My 4' box is a limited cat1 or they called it the 'baby box'. My rake is a special limited 1/0 5' rake, boom is lowered for the lack of hight of the tractor. There is a 48" finish mower out there that can be converted to 2000 cat0....just a matter of cash.

I buzzed out the plug and found the appropriate wires and made jumpers to connect properly. Tested and works fine. It is actually a PTO switch and not a selector as in the instructions. Got it all worked out. If you look at the 2nd to the last pic, you'll see the bolt that connects to the rearend thru the axle tube. (bottom left corner) I made a pattern off the frame and it showed that that hole (on both sides) was about 1/4" too high. All the others lined up fine. I marked and elongated the holes and it bolted right up. Now the next issue is the connection of the lift bar to the 3 point. The CC manual shows that there is a headless clevis that stays in place with a roll pin. This one comes with a nut and bolt, but they won't clear the bolts that connect the side plates on. I think I have a fix for that also. Right now I need a longer clevis to connect the lift rod at the cylinder, a way to connect the lift bar to the rear, and then torque everything down.
I still need maintenance info on the tiller if anyone has a manual. (lube type, capacity etc) |
Good progress so far...giving the crap ya gootta go through to make this work1....will look and see if I copied a manual for that tiller...guy I know that works at the IH dealer dug out a bunch of manuals and parts books for me a few weeks ago....can't remember what I copied???

Snuck an hour in the garage after Dad duty last nite. Got the arms installed, the pto pulley, idler, spring, and the rear plate almost installed. Need to adjust the holes a little tonite for a better fit. I fired her up and worked the lift, and also switched on the rear pto. Worked quiet and smooth! :beer2: So, my final tasks: 1) elongate a few more holes on the rear plate 2) Replace the 3 1/2" gr 8 bolts with 3 3/4" gr 8 bolts in the rear end, right side 3) Retorque all the bolts 4) Replace a check valve that all of a sudden went bad 5) Replace the tins & seat 6) Install the SenTek Tach/Hour meter I got from Cabela's 7) Change the fluids in the tiller 8) Install the tiller 9) Give the garden a final tilling before I plant.

Had 2 problems last nite. 1) Ran out of daylight to try the tiller:bash2: 2) When I put the wheel back on, a hornet took exeception to me moving his home and got me right between the thumb & index finger. :BB&YS:
