New Owner of a 582
Today at a local Antique Tractor show I Bought a 582 to add to my collection of cubs. Pictures to follow. I paid $375.
|
Looking forward to some pics. The dealer my dad retired from didn't sell too many of them compared to the 6 and 782 models. I think folks were leaning toward the bigger engine and the hydro. During the time when those were built they only sold one 582 special and one 982, it took a couple years to move those. The 382, 682,and 782 models would somehow sell themselves almost. The 582 would sell easily to anyone wanting a new version of their old reliable gear drive.
So, whats the plan, mow grass, garden work, backup for when everything else is broke, trailer queen? |
Congrats on your new 582! How about some pic's?
:TTWWP: |
I am picking it up tomorrow I haven't decide what to do with it. I got the fever and had to buy it.
|
Nice! :beerchug:
|
It has some issues. It won't shut off with the key and will only run with the choke wide until it gets warm then it kind of runs.
|
You got a good deal I think. Your problems sound pretty minor. Congrats!

engine transplant at some point in time? says 18 hp on the air filter cover
|
I was wondering if any know where I could find a wiring diagram for a 582?
:bigthink: |
Good looking 582! I wouldn't paint it , just try waxing or buffing it.
|
Given the stance, I think you should name her Ilene. :biggrin2:
Congrats on the 582, looks to be in nice shape! :beerchug: Bill |
I am having trouble with the carb. The float is sticking and will not shut off. Below pics of the carb. I am having trouble finding info about this carb. I was wondering if there is a rebuild kit for it?

yes there are rebuild kits for that carb. you need to get the numbers off the engine tin to order a kit though
|
Your IH emblem on the front looks a little drunk.
Cool find! |
That's a nice 582, the red Cubs are my favorite, just look more IH to me. nice score. Wouldn't think it'd be much to rebuild a Briggs carb, good luck
