New to me 2182 craigslist find

Well my 1450 was going to get a full resto.....until I Found a local 2182 on Craigslist.

Slapped the trailer on the truck and headed out on a journey to go get it minutes after I talked to the owner on the phone.

599 hours, 60" deck (Haban), Plastics are all there, and so far the only crack I found is around the muffler area, typical faded paint, overall in great shape. Came from the orig owners son who didn't want/need it (has a barn full of big boy tractors)

Paid $1,000 for it, I feel like that was a pretty good deal. Waiting for my pics to upload and I will add them sometime today here to the thread.

So, looking at SGT Braces as preventative, and will be changing all the fluids/filters. anything else specifically I should do or look into?

BTW that little Kubota sounds soooooo cool!

Congrats on the 2182, probably one of the best Cubs ever built. Here is some light reading for you.

Congrats,it is a nice looking tractor and glad someone here bought it. Oak had posted a link to the ad a couple of days ago.

cub

Good deal, i saw that add. There's a $1000 tractor that won't self destruct in 3 years. I/ve got a 3cly geo that sounds a little funky. Mike:biggrin2:

Oak 07-03-2015 09:12 AM

I'm glad you got it. That one looks like it was in great condition and was a great price too!

Terry C 07-03-2015 03:37 PM

Looks like a clean 2182. Side cover on the exhaust side is from an early 2182 or 1782, you'll notice it has slots in the rear while the other side has the screen. One of our members Andy2182 had some new side panels waterjeted and they came out great. If you want to replace yours send him a PM.

Just my 2 cents but I would take the belt covers off the deck, they trap grass clippings and rot the crap out of the deck.

Haha! I think I did VERY well..... The deck has some rust through but it will come off this winter and I will cut out patches and weld in new material.

Thanks! I did notice its a different panel, but I figured there would be some source for new panels. I will send him a message!

Got the throttle cable fixed for under $10 today as well....the old cable siezed in the jacket, and you can tell it broke from the PO "working" it loose before the inner cabe snapped.

Well I'm into fabricating and fixing just about anything. So I measured the inner and outer cable with my vernier calipers and compared it to a "universal throttle cable" at Lowes and imagine that.... The same...so I flushed the old cable out lubed with marvel mystery oil, stuck the new innards in and cut to length.... And now I have a buttery smooth throttle cable for $9....sure as heck beats the assembly the dealer wants $69 for!

Now THATS the kind of thinking that keeps these "old" machines very productive instead of fodder for the scrapyard!:beerchug:

Next time try Dri-slide, the Graphite works good in cable sheaths.
--worked good in 'nam too:beerchug:

USMC_SGT 07-05-2015 09:11 AM

I actually have some graphite, didn't even think to use it.....

jaynjeep 07-05-2015 01:21 PM

WOW,

What a deal... You stole it!! but you will love it!

Don't throw the old 1450 down though!

Have fun with it... very unusual to find a Cyclops with the plastic in that kind of shape!

By the way, read through all SamMac's post's on these series tractors.. He in the GURU of the Cyclops series.

CubDieselFan 07-06-2015 10:25 AM

Very Nice Cub. You did good.

USMC_SGT 07-06-2015 03:16 PM

Surprised it needs rod ends as clean as she looks with only 600 hrs on the clock..

USMC_SGT 07-06-2015 10:40 PM

Only really needed one, but will just replace all of them.

USMC_SGT 07-08-2015 09:44 PM

Got all the rod ends installed, did all four tie rods and the rod ends on the steering cylinder, couldn't beat the price on ebay from Patton Acres. Steering is VERY smooth now!

Grampie 07-09-2015 05:55 AM

Super Deal !

That's one awesome tractor at an awesome price! Congrats!!! :beerchug:

USMC_SGT 07-12-2015 02:42 PM

Thanks Grampie! I wish I were getting some of the necessary Stuff done sooner, I never trust the "oil just changed" of a seller.... Unfortunately having some issues with my roof that require attention before the tractor. BUT before that all happened I did score a cap, rotor, and all 4 wires(all NOS stuff) for cheap on eBay that came up yesterday. Also sharpend and balanced the blades on the haban. New ones are on the list of sure... And I think I have my old 1450 sold to a member on here...I'll be very sad to see my old girl leave here.
