Cub Cadet 100
just got back from looking at a 1963 cub 100. I was hoping that someone would give me a rough estimate.
The tractor is a 1963 100 model with a 10 horsepower engine. It was completely restored and had a mower deck. The guy was asking $500.00 for it which seems pretty good for my area. The only thing is that it is missing the starter-generator which I think go for at least $50 to $75. Also I was wondering when or if they ever had fenders. |
Welcome to OCC.
Fenders were an option for those who wanted them. I would require a definition of "completely restored" from the owner if I were buying a "completely restored" anything. Especially if you can't hear it run. |
I sold an unrestored 100 with a deck, no options, and a smoky 10hp for $500.
The guy couldn't load it fast enough. do you have any pics of it? |
no, I don't have any pics.
One of my other options is a bare bones 100 with out a deck (or any other attachments). The tractor needs a lot of work like wiring and new paint. After all that it looks pretty complete (it has a starter-generator). The kid is asking $150.00 for it which is a lot more comfortable price for something that needs work. |
Go get them both I say. They quit making them you know :biggrin2:
Can't tell on the restored one without pics but around me that would be a good price. |
:bigthink: I never thought of that!
|
Sounds to me that for around $650, you could have a nice 100 and a parts tractor...but I would definitely get the current owner's definition of "restored" (including receipts if available) before offering him a price.
|
I would find a starter to put on it to hear it run before you buy it. The guy may have pulled the starter off because there are engine issues. If the buyer can't start it they won't know the engine's bad. Lots of shady sellers out there.
|
I guess that in a perfect world that would be my plan BUT, I do not have that much money to spend on them. Also my mom is not to happy about me spending that much money on two tractors that don't run (I am only 16). I am talking to a few more people to have a few more options, like a 102 (running) with a 42 inch deck and a snow plow for $400.00 which is at the top of my list right now.
|
You could buy the cheaper one and pull the starter off to take with you when you look at the other Cub.

What part of Pennsylvania are you from cubcadethuy123?
And how far from you is this CC 100 that you're looking at? Is there anyone in cubcadet123's area who would loan him a S/G so he can hear this 100 run before he buys it? |
It would be nice to know what his AREA is ! Last I checked, Pennsylvania's like 350 miles across and I'm on the western side about 20 miles from the Ohio line. I guess the S/G wasn't RESTORED. :bigthink: :biggrin2:
|
I say go for that $150 100. Paint isn't needed right away, and these are simple enough to wire that you can do it yourself. A "restored" tractor with no starter is too fishy for me. Even if it's not attached it should at least be included in the deal for that price.
|
Tell him that if he wants to sell the restored one, he'll have the S/G from the other one on it when you get there, so you can see it run. Or, you could do a package deal. After you have seen it run, tell him the S/G can go with the tractor or you can be on your way. Restored tractors aren't supposed to be missing parts. Around here a nice original 70 or 100 in decent running condition seems to command $400-500 now.

If you cannot hear it run, then you have to consider it a non-running cub cadet or in other words, it will need some work to get the engine running. Next, consider the restoration job that has been done. Obviously a quick rattle can special is not the quality of a professional spray. How bad to you want it? Ultimately, that will dictate the personal side of "what is it worth" to you. Without pictures of the quality, then it is difficult to state a price range. However, PA seems to be a gold mine of cub cadets.

sorry I haven't been on in a few days.
I was very close to buying a 102 Saturday. It looked very nice on the internet but when I got to looking at it, it needed a lot of little things done to it for the price He was asking. so close!:bash2: To answer your question about where I am from in Pennsylvanian, I am from California Pa (near Pittsburgh). I am working on saving a little more money, because a friend of mine told me that I am not going to get a relay nice 100 or 102 for under 400 bucks. I do know someone who has a starter-generator but I need to ask him about it. I personally don't believe that the seller does not have the generator for that tractor, I thing he doesn't want to look for it. |
Keep saving. And keep posting and let us know what you find
If your really interested in these tractors, and are willing to spend garage time learning and repairing, you will get a lot of help from this forum. Your mom will come around once she sees you are staying out of trouble and learning at the same time. If you are ambitious and willing to work at it, you might be able to turn one for a small profit which will give you $ to put into the one you want to keep Are you planning on mowing or pulling? |
Thanks. I have a big 60" swisher tow-behind mower that I plan on using with my new toy. I also wouldn't mind pulling either.
|
I have a 108 roller for sale cheap if your looking for a project or I have a 129 that's ready to go, I'm from Indiana PA which is about 45 miles north of Pittsburgh.
|
Thanks for the offer. I am going to look at a 74 with dual rear wheels. I will probably be letting you guys know that I got something by the end of the week.

This is a 100 that I went to look at yesterday. It needs wiring and completely restored. He is giving me a coil and some other parts. The only thing that scares me is one of the hinge holes on the hood have rotted out but I think it can be patched. |
