I have begun the task of restoring my 149, it won't be showroom perfect. I plan to do a quick carwash overhaul and use spraycan paint. But I do plan to add a few mods to it.

I have been looking for the timong mark and I found it.

It's on the back side.

This is as far down as I am going to go with it, so far everything looks good.

How far can I tow this frame?? The carwash is about 2 1/2 blocks away, can I tow it that far, or do I need to load it up and haul it?

Also the battery box is rusted badly so it will go to the body shop for repair.

Pat it looks like you got a good start....I dont think I would tow that thing that far you dont wanta take a chance and mess up that hydro.... She'll be a good looking ride when your done.....:beerchug:

I would definitely trailer it that far. While you have the fender assembly off it's a good time to update the trunion, cams, and seals if they need attention. I'm in the middle of a 149 partial restore myself.

Just a thought....Wayne

Please keep us updated on your progress, Pat.

I don't see any oil leaks anywhere, so I don't think I'm going to mess with the seals.

Well I decided to pull the trans/axle anyway so i can haul it easier. Used my garden trailer to take it to the carwash for a bath.

I am glad I did, it allowed me to get under it and give it a good bath.

Now for a little rattlecan paint. After it dries I'll flip it over and paint the topside.

Thanks for the progress pics, Pat! :beerchug:

I really hope you didn't mess up the hydro by not capping the ports and then not just washing it, but painting it as well....:NailBite::Spank:

Amigatec 04-14-2010 07:29 AM

I had tape over the lines when I washed it. I plan to change the Hytrans anyway.

Matt G. 04-14-2010 08:02 AM

Did you leave them covered when you painted it, too? If you got anything at all in the charge pump, you risk destroying it. It doesn't take much. I would also take some laquer thinner and remove the paint from the bare aluminum part of the hydro so it can cool properly.

Amigatec 04-14-2010 08:13 AM

I was careful when I painted around it. I may do that, there is very little overspray on the tranny. I thoink with the oil in the fittings it shouldn't stick to anything. I plan to change the oil anyway.

Since this is going to be my FEL tractor I plan to switch the steering column for an upgraded 3 turn column. And do the front spindle upgrade. I have seen a few farm tractor break the spindles from to much load on them.

I will then have the old column upgraded and I will install that in my 129 when I tear it down.

Well took the frame down and washed it today.

Got part of the frame painted as well.

What's the easiest way to remove the hydro shift lever so I put a new decal on the dash tin?

I have the set screw loose.

Amigatec 04-14-2010 09:51 PM

After looking at the trunnion it will need a little work on it before I put it back together.

johncub7172 04-14-2010 11:28 PM
