LT2180 road trip

Going to pickup a 2180 today for my neighbor. Been trying to get her off the crappy MTD that she has for a while now. Pics and report later. :beerchug:

Have a safe trip.

Back with todays pickup. Needs a few things like work on the PTO and it has some creative PO wiring and the rear tires are about done. Have to dig into it and see if I want to sell it to the neighbor considering I'll have to live with it or if it's going down the road.

I say rip the motor out and ship it to me. 61081 so you can get a shipping quote :biggrin2:

Seriously though, looks good! I hope it doesn't give you too much gripe :beerchug:

Must have got that one at a steal of a price to make it worth your time. Or did you just want seat time In the Toyota. Lol.

Sam Mac 03-10-2015 04:50 PM

$600.00 Figure it's worth that for parts at worst. Think someone rebuilt the PTO that shouldn't be allowed to use tools. I'll stick it up on the lift and see what the deal is. I know the pulley has the wobbles.

I am not going to get into this brand is better than that brand of pickup. For my needs the Tacoma works best. I've owned Fords, Chevy's, Dodge's and GMC's, all had good and bad points.

Got into this little turd, another tractor whose PO shouldn't have been allowed to use tools. Wrong PTO and looks like the crank seal leaked so he crammed a second seal into the bore, you can get away with that on a CH but not a Vanguard because the bore isn't deep enough for 2 seals so he slapped some silicone around the OD. PTO switch was broken so they just put a push pull on off switch in the dash, I had the proper switch that I had salvaged from a 2000 series so I replaced that and fixed the wiring. New seal and PTO on order. I went for one of those Xtreme PTO's that are on Flea Bay, been looking for an opportunity to try one. $160.00 shipped. Link to the PTO seller.

I'll let you guys know how it works out.

Was just hacking on you Sam:bigeyes:
As for the "new" tractor. Didn't you have to go through a bunch of shtuff a while back on a tractor for someone also? Or was I thinking of someone else?
Hopefully with a little TLC it'll be a good mower for the neighbor....:bigthink:

I guess I like pain, I hooked up my brother in law with an LT2180 last year after his Snapper zero turn took a dump. It had a few issues but no big deal. I've been fixing the neighbors MTD Yardman POS for a couple years and it's about dead. So in my infinite wisdom I've about got her convinced to go for a Cub, found this one on C-list for $600 and it looked GOOD. Went and picked it up. Noticed that the PTO was shaky but figured OK it may need a PTO. Got it up on the lift and now it may be one of those that may just need to go away. I know that if I convince her to buy it I'm gonna be the one to keep it going. If it looks to be a problem child I'll just off it and cut my losses. I'd love to find her a decent 1864 at least I know what make them tick. I can work on those with my eyes closed. Guess I should just keep my mouth shut, every time I try to help someone it bites me in the butt. :bash2::beatdeadhorse:

New PTO and seal showed up today. I'd be working on it right now but the power is out at the moment. Have a generator for the house but no power at the shop.:Mad1:

Looks like a well built piece. :beerchug:

Sam Mac 03-14-2015 03:06 PM

Got the new crank seal in and the PTO on. PTO works as good or better than the OEM part. Hard to beat for $160.00 delivered. :beerchug:

Not so happy with the engine, it has a ton of blow by. Have to see what the deal is with that.

Link to the Xtreme clutch's home page. http://xclutches.ecomitize.com/ Not the same as Xtreme motorworks that we are used to

Well I know why it has blow by. Blown head gasket on the right hand head. Looks like it got hot thanks to a mouse nest. Did the wet sandpaper deal on the sheet of glass to clean up both heads now I need to order some parts and put it back together. It also had one exhaust gasket that was on backwards so the port was partially covered. Like I've said before some people should not be allowed to use tools. If you look at the last 2 pics you can see where the head gasket took a dump and was blowing into the oil return passage.

Put the Vanguard back together today. Managed to lose the choke linkage rod so I made one out of a piece of wire I had laying around. Otherwise it all went well. Hope to get it back in the tractor tomorrow. :beerchug:
