Winter Storm Octavia

The weather guesser is calling for 6" plus my area out of this one so I broke down and put the chains on my snow weapon. All fueled up and ready to go sitting in the garage. Bring it. :BB&YS:

Yeah I know it's not a Cub but it gets the job done fast and I'm not a big fan of this kind of seat time. :beerchug:

Shrewcub 02-16-2015 09:49 AM

You look ready! :beerchug: They are calling for the same here Sam. I need to raise my blower up a little. The gravel I spread a week ago wasn't in the equation when I put the "training" wheels on. That stuff was too expensive to blow or plow it off the driveway.

J-Mech 02-16-2015 10:42 AM

I hear ya Sam.

I come home from Chicago where it was snow galore.... I hear late afternoon yesterday that we are supposed to get snow. I was like "Pppppppbbbbbtttt... whatever! We haven't gotten any that was forecasted. We aren't going to get any now!!" Well...... I was wrong. 6" on the ground now and still falling. I have NOTHING truly ready for removal here in town. At home the 1050 is sitting with the blade on in wait. But not in town. Gonna go throw a carb kit in the Lo-Boy and maybe put a new coil on. It started giving me fits just before I left so I ordered the parts. Fun fun.

64fleetside 02-16-2015 11:02 AM

We got 1/2 inch of ice with sleet on top. I stayed home. Folks drive crazy.

Sam Mac 02-16-2015 11:14 AM

Get the bread and milk. :biggrin2:

I bet it'd be nice to have a QA42A ready for the fight! :biggrin2: :beerchug:

And if you're wondering, I've already paid for that comment. This is how my morning started. 1 year old truck battery DEAD. Had to fire up the 1864 from a cold sleep to jump the truck. I hate starting them from such a cold for 5 minutes of work but how else was I going to make it to work

Nice rig there Sam, you've got things covered now!

Was looking at the weather map and it appears that all this bad weather is south of my place...good luck to everyone in the storms path!

Yosemite Sam 02-16-2015 12:43 PM

I just came in from cleaning the drive. Betsy said we got 7", I think it's more like 5 but whatever.

I got about 3-1/2 hours of seat time on the 149 that I got from Darrell this past summer, I had a great time.

The snow thrower tractor is at the other place in Belleville, I hear we only got a couple of inches there.

So now that I have had my winter fun, I'm ready to start tilling.

I do feel for those of you in the north east, I really wouldn't want that much snow.

Well that's a first, normally it's the tractor that needs a jump. Let me guess the truck battery is going to be returned. :bigthink:

Shrewcub 02-16-2015 01:50 PM

It on!!

First flurries coming down here in Nokesville. Time to go get my bread, milk, and TP! :biggrin2:

Sam Mac 02-16-2015 01:56 PM

Had flurries on and off for a couple hours but it looks like the party is getting going now. Nice dry stuff so plowing should be easy.

j4c11 02-16-2015 01:59 PM

Just saw a tiny snowflake stick to the window of my office in High Point NC. Here we go. Been waiting to get some seat time on my 2072 :biggrin2:.

I plan to return to the place of purchase, yes :biggrin2: The thing is, I'm kinda hard on it. I live not even half a mile from work so I try to start it 5-10 minutes before I leave in the morning so it can warm up and charge up but I guess that isn't enough :-/

Be sure to take plenty of pics of getting yours with the snow!! :biggrin2: :beerchug:

Snowing in Annandale, VA. The ground is getting covered with first dusting. I can't wait to try out my snow blade.

Shrewcub 02-16-2015 03:41 PM

Just got back from the store. Roads are crap already. about 1" so far.

Shrewcub 02-16-2015 10:38 PM

Looks like they over-guessed again!

It's 10:30 and it looks like it's done with about 3" on the ground. They had us in the 6-10 range. We'll see what it looks like in the morning.

CSXengr 02-17-2015 06:27 AM

Ice, ice everywhere in NC. I hate that stuff. Thank God we still have power but a lot of my fellow Tarheels do not. Three Cubs sitting out there not fully clothed (no blades or chains) but that will change. Just got to do it slowly for the wife's or should I say my marriage! Naked Cubs not a pretty sight!:bash:

Sam Mac 02-17-2015 07:30 AM

Looks like we got 4 maybe 5 inches. I'll get to it a little later.

sbauerz28 02-17-2015 08:25 AM

I'm glad we finally missed a storm. I woke up this morning to just a light dusting on my windshield. Right now the suns shining and it's a nice 2° outside. What more could you ask for.

We ended up getting about 15".... I was really hoping to plow some but this stuff was so fluffy I literally took the BR600 backpack blower and blew 80% of it away... Oh well.

I'm admiring the morning scenery after I finished moving 4" of snow with the CC125. This is from the storm Octavia. Now the fun is done and it's time to go to work.....grumble, grumble, grumble.

We got 6". I plowed my driveway and 2 neighbors this morning. I didn't need the chains and the tractor can even plow uphill! I'm still shopping for a snow thrower though...

I always wondered seeing a blade setup lifted by the bucket like that; how is it seeing where you're going with the bucket where it's at? :bigthink:

Well, I finally got the Lo-Boy up and going early afternoon yesterday. It was cold and icy, so slow going with the blade. Lights on it aren't fixed yet, so after dark I started putting the 1811 back together. Had it apart to clean the motor and carb. Got it done then reassembled the auger gearbox on the 450 that I blew last year. Finished up at around 1:30 this AM them went out and test ran the blower. Pushed snow all morning up until just now. Stopped to get a drink, and a quick bite. Sorry, as of yet, I haven't snapped any pics. I'll try and get some when I go back out. Got all the parking lots cleared, now gotta do a couple drives. :beerchug:

PaulF 02-17-2015 02:48 PM

Wow you all have some really nice tractors, each in their own way! Thanks for sharing your pictures :IH Logo:

No problem at all seeing where your going. Kubota wanted if memory serves me correctly around $1800 for the plow for the BX, I built that one for $500.00 and it's easier to put on and remove than the factory plow.

Shaner 02-17-2015 03:16 PM

snow plow on the truck is the way to go...5 minutes and the driveway is done! lol. no fooling around trying to get a cub or other garden tractor to start.

hopefully soon getting a newer truck with a newer plow so plowing will be even easier and more fun!

That's cheating.

Great picture!

Just a wondering thought. When did we start naming plain old winter snow storms? Was it the same time we started allowing dogs in malls and airports? Did I miss that memo?
