782 purchase

Hi guys I have a chance to buy this 782 only an hour away. Runs good only issue is it has a hydraulic line leak. Is $400 too much, no mower deck only the tractor.

Here is the pic.

i think its worth it. 782's are arguably the perfect garden tractor. i love mine with the loader on it and cat 0 three point.

question is whether it has the series I or series II in it....

Thanks Shaner. It's got a small hydraulic leak but he assured me its a small one. Easy fix

That's a bargain in my neck of the woods. I'm thinking hand this guy the money before he changes his mind

He was originally asking $500. But it was posted for over 3 weeks. I'm very shocked to know that I was his first call. He came down to $400 and we are meeting halfway for both of us:beerchug:

depending on the leak, it could be very minor or a major job to fix. very minor would be a hydraulic hose leaking, major would be the cork gasket behind the pump. the rear end has to come out, the pump removed and a new gasket installed. its NOT fun.

it still looks like a nice unit. scoop it while you can!

It would be a good deal here.

I pick it up Thursday afternoon.

The cork gasket replacement is not that entailed.
unbolt it, roll it out, tip it up and do it.
You don't even have to drain the hyguard.

Looks to be in good shape, looks like a red rear on it so it prolly has a series 1,400 is a bargain.

Found out some very interesting news tonight on the 782. It only has a 10hp engine in it. Probably a Kohler, he said the other motor went bad and he got rid of it. Makes me sad but I'll probably still buy it.

I see a Price drop aisle 3
:biggrin2:
Bought my 782 with an "electrical problem" not running
with a good 50" mower & Qa 42 thrower for $250
Electrical problem was a broken camshaft caused by a rod through the block,.
typical of the series 1
Po had no clue.
It got a M-18 replacement, love it, I put close to 700 hours on it now.

I gave $400 for my 782. It came with a blade, weights, 50" deck, and a series II. However, it was much rougher than the one you are looking at.

SGragg 02-04-2015 08:17 AM

I gave about $400 for my 782 in western MO a few years ago. Came with a 44" deck and a series II engine, but high hours.

You could always find a replacement twin engine... :)

I re-powered my 782 with a Honda 18HP. It's quirky but it dropped right in.

Shrewcub 02-04-2015 10:11 AM

I picked mine up for a bit less, powered it with a CH18 and put a Sam Mac 2000 drive shaft in. Guess I have a little more than that in it now.:biggrin2:

Now that I know it only has a 10 horse Kohler in it will I still have enough engine/hydraulic lift to do work? I wasn't aware you could put an old Kohler in the 82 series of tractor. Thanks for all the info guys greatly appreciated.
