Info needed please
 

i picked up my old 122 that i sold 12 years ago. i got it back the same as i sold it. it hasnt run in a long time. i cleaned the carb and gas tank. and changed the battery,motor oil and the trans gear oil and a new spark plug. she fired right up and i drove it around the field for a bit then put the plow on and cleaned up my driveway. now for the info im wanting. i know nothing of the history of the 122. is there a tag that tells the year? how many were made? how much is it worth with the mower deck and plow setup. i think its all original except the tires and battery. its got a kohler 12hp engine and a 3 speed trans. any history/info would be appreciated.

The 122 was made between 08/65 to 11/67. There were just under 31,000 of this model made.

Thanks for the info guys, The 6 digit code on the side of the transmission what does it indicate? i knew the old girl was heavy but i didn't realize it was 800 pounds. what do you think a good running one is worth? id say mine in in better than average condition very little rust. no big dents or dings paint is a 6 out of 10.

$500. That good sound good? It's a Garden tractor. No "Blue Book" exists, so...... Values are regional.

Just so you know, the numbering of the older IH Cub Cadets indicates the HP and the trans. (No need to give us that info unless it isn't the original motor, trans either, we know. :biggrin2:) A 122 is a 12HP gear drive. A 123 would be a 12Hp hydrostat. All CC garden tractors that are gear drive are 3 speed. (Yes there are 2 exceptions to the rule).

The guys have given you some good information, your serial number will be between 127161 and 218009.

The location of the serial number will depend on when your tractor was made. IF your tractor has the serial number in the boss on the side of the trans-axle the numbers will be stamped into the housing and will not be raised numbers.

You won't get much information out of most of the casting numbers found on the tractor in various places, some may be a part number but not all of them will be.

Values of different tractors have been hashed to death and most of the old timers here won't even discuss it with you.

Geographical location is huge in the Cub Cadet world, A tractor that sells for big bucks in Arizona might not bring $50.00 in Pennsylvania. If you're intent on finding a value for your machine, watch craigs list and ebay for a couple of years and you will have a good idea of what your tractor is worth. Be advised that just because an owner asks a huge amount of money for a machine does NOT mean that that is what it's actually worth, you have to go by the actual selling price.

Keep in mind that a tractor with more factory or dealer installed options is usually worth much more than a Plain Jane model. For instance, factory headlights, creeper gear, 3 point hitch and hydraulic lift will more than double the value of a tractor like yours, however buying these options individually will probably cost you more than twice the value of your machine, making it nearly impossible to "come out" on such an undertaking.

Not at all, these things are a "money pit".

I'm pretty sure the only way to "come out" on them, is to first dump what some would consider an exorbitant amount of money into what these same folks consider to be a "lawn mower", and then use it for 40 years for countless chores around our property while our neighbors spend more than what we have in our machine every few years to replace the pos that they bought at the local box store.

Your neighbors will spend around $14,000.00 (in todays money) on new machines over 40 years and we will have spent $2000.00 (plus a little in maintenance, spread out over time) and the only difference is that they will have a nice new shiny plastic pos every few years and we will have the same old thing year after year along with a smile on our face every time we use it and $12,000.00 worth of other stuff instead.

We also get the satisfaction of owning and operating a real garden tractor that we can pass on to our children.
