flooding carb on sons 86

my sons model 86 with a k181 and walbro carb on it after winter she started right up drove around for 45 min, then started flooding the carb with gas. took bowl off sprayed with carb cleaner reassembled tried again, again flooded till i cut the cut off..off.... next ill check the float see if it has a crack somehow in it anything else????

thanks bill, ill take the flaot off and spray it all out as well as check for cracks im guessing peice of grit or something cause she was runnin like a champ before that happaned.... but has a plastic float

I bought a 1650 that had "set for 8 years" and have beeN chasing gremlins for the last 5 months. So the latest one was, after installing the tiller, I made almost a full pass, (the first pass) and it refused to run.

After a trip to the barn to get some tools, I noticed fluid dripping! I pulled it apart and physically closed the float with my hand and turned on the gas. No drip! To me that signaled no crap in/on the needle so I shut off the fuel and removed the float and shook it. ALAS!!! My float had turned into a sink.

A quick shake will often indicate a leaking float quicker often than a good inspection as a pinhole or tiny crack may be difficult to find.

Good luck with your problem and HAPPY CUBBING!!

thanks man, ill be looking at it closer tomorrow as im off, going to pull the pin and check the float, then spray out the needle and seat with carb cleaner and see its flooding soo much im guessing either a piece of tank trash got caught up or couldn't imagine float just sudden got a hole and filled up but who knows ill post reply hopefully get her runnin again tomorrow sons driving me nuts to drive it, then back to my 70 ill go:beerchug:

ihnick 03-25-2010 06:40 PM

my 169 float had a tiny hole in it somewhere and it filled up with gas. caused it to flood out. shouldnt be much crud from the tank in there because the the valve on the tank should have a little screen on it

Did you check the float level? Too high and you'll still have this issue.

dads70 03-26-2010 12:58 PM

GOT IT.. its the needle and seat ill pcik up a cab kit and rebuild her, disassembled the carb bowl again and bent the float needle up alittle re assembled runs ok, surges though but when its cut off theres not a drop leaked might try to re adjust the carb but she runs and dose not drip or flood :beer2:

Happy to report

got a carb kit which i only needed the needle!!! for 42.00!! once i cleaned the bowl out and put the new needle in it she fired right up once the bowl filled and cut the yard like a champ, since i gave her to my 13yr old son this weekend ill teach him how to mow with her he has already changed her oil and greese it. will get some pics of it and my lil 70 over the weekend and post monday by noon, love these old gals:beerchug:

Matt G. 04-30-2010 12:32 PM

$42??!!! Where on earth did you buy that? A carb kit costs about $12 from CC, and that's the most expensive I've ever seen them.

Turbo Archie 04-30-2010 12:44 PM

I just paid $28 from NAPA and I only needed the needle.

That fixed my problem.

Oh, and as quickly as today's gas destroys gaskets in carbs, you are better off putting all the parts in the first time, rather than taking if off again when something starts leaking. BTDT.

screwed in a way

at the only mower shop in town that had a kit for the walbro carb and i only needed the needle!!!! oh well shes runnin now

Cub Cadet 126 Carb

I have a similar problem with my 126. When I got it it was leaking gas out of the air bleed but only when it was not running, so I had it rebuilt. got it back on the tractor and it did the same thing :bash2:. Anyone know what to do?

Thanks

Matt G. 05-02-2010 03:37 PM

Check the float level and make sure the float isn't full of gas. Also, if you have a bunch of crap in the gas tank and no sediment bowl or filter, the needle won't seal in the seat.

mrcubcadet 05-02-2010 05:40 PM

It has a filter but last time I took it appart it didn't seem that there was anything in the float. I also took a sew driver and bent the float down to make it push the needle more, but once I got it to stop leaking it wouldn't let enough fuel into the bowl and would run a little while and then die.:bigthink:
