3200 Shaft Drive Mower Value?
60" deck, hydro ports up front, under 500 hours,
it has sat and needs a battery, tubes in the tires, How do these mowers hold up/ mow like the older ones? My 1712 mows well with a 50c. Its got 1300+ hours now. Thanks |
How much are they asking? :bigthink:
|
He said make an offer
|
I'd check with Oak, he's the 3000 series guru. :beerchug:

That should be a pretty good machine with a CH25 in it, cast iron rear with locking differential and the front ports. It scares me that it's not running to see what condition the rest of it is in. If the locking rear is broken then it's probably a parts machine. Can you post a picture of it?
|
It ran and drove to the spot its in now.
|
Most of them do. I would take a battery over and see if it will start. If it's not running I would low ball him at $500. He may think it is still worth $5000 because those were around $6500 new IIRC. The front ports and deck should be worth that. What condition is it in and how is the paint?
|
I drove it to the spot its in now and its in realy good shape. paint and plastic are good
|
I would be hard pressed to pay $500 for ANY machine that does not run.
If he wants $$$, let him get it running,,,,,, If you are taking a risk, the price is LOW |

Sometimes you even get burnt with "running". I bought a tractor site-unseen that ran. Yeah....... ran on one cylinder. Dropped valve seat on the other. I wasn't too upset as the machine was in excellent cosmetic shape. But, now I have to put a motor in it. (Not fixable..... not cheaply anyway, everything's fixable. :biggrin2:) |
so if it does not run the price should be under 500
What if it runs really well and works as it should? |
A good running 3000 series should bring $2K to $3k but they just don't. The front ports should be worth a couple hundred and the deck the same. If it is you selling the machine I would get it running and sell it. Why did someone park a $7000 machine outside if nothing was wrong with it is what I would ask myself if I was buying it. How does it compare to your 1712? If your using this as a mower, they are a lot better then the 82 series for mowing.
|
It's not mine. The mower is one of many on a big estate. This one didn't get used as much as the zero turns or the large front deck mowers. It has been stored inside its hole life. They are selling everything off the property soon so I thought I would see how much its worth, if its a really good mower.
Thanks |
My policy is "If it don't run I do". Sounds simple but most of these old garden tractors CC or JD lose so much value with a bad engine that they usually become parts tractors. If you are a good wrench then a low offer may be what you need to do. But for me I won't even consider one that I cannot drive and operate.:beerchug:

I am a mechanic and work for the guy from time to time. I started the mower last year and moved it to its current location. It ran then but need the carb cleaned from sitting. I don't want to low ball him, I'm not that kind of guy.
The mower does need work tho, so that's the spot i am in. I would offer 500 but if they sell for 2000 I don,t want to insult the guy. Thanks for all the input |
When something is for sale there is no such thing as a "Too low" of an offer. Maybe that's all they can afford or think the item is worth. Plus there is always the chance that you are getting an angry wife who is selling her ex's tools at giveaway prices. Everytime I put a JD on CL I get several "Would you take XXX offers?" and I always reply with a simple NO. No insults or belittling of their offer because I believe that most of them are dreamers and do not mean to insult me. :beerchug:

JR, I agree with Rudy and Sam. Do a search on that model number and you will probably see them going for over $2k at the dealers. If your sure that nothing is wrong maybe start out at $1500, all they can say is no. That machine should bring $2k +/- $500 depending on condition.
People in my area don't know the difference from a good garden tractor like what your looking at to some belt drive pos you can buy at Home Depot. They could care less about it being able to pull a cat 0 plow, put a snow blower on it or put one of those sweet hydro tillers on the back. |
I figured 1000 to 2000 from what found. I would have to get the mower running for him if he sold it any way. I would love to bring it home for 500 but I think 1000 is probably the place to start.
This mower is missing the third hydro handle, what does this limit? Also Its going to be a while till I get back over to see this mower, do you know how wide the 60" deck is? I need to know if it will fit in the spot I'm thinking of. Thanks |
