Road trip! AKA 2182 # 2
Got a road trip planned for tomorrow to pick up a Cyclops. Wish I could say more but not till the deal is done. :beerchug:
Stay tuned. :biggrin2: |
Good Luck Sam and have a safe trip!!
|
Have a safe trip.
|
Gotta at least give us a hint!! You aren't getting another 2284, are you? Any accessories? :bigthink:
|
|
My guess is one with a FEL. I was eyeballing a nice one but way too far for me to travel.

Back from the road trip 480 miles round trip. 2182 with a 3 point and a Haban deck. Needs work but got it for a Lew price so even if the engine is toast I'm OK. Guy I got it from said it smokes, don't know how bad because the grommets in the fuel tank are rotted out so I just hooked up my new $49.00 harbor freight winch and pulled it up on the trailer. Wish I had bought one of those sooner works great. Looks like it had a rear PTO at one time and I got the upper shaft with the clutch with it. Gotta check that out. Most likely it will be for sale. I have no use for a rear PTO. Oak you can wipe the drool off your chin now. Once I get it running I'll decide what the plan is. Rear end is all in one piece. Leaks oil, like that's something new. Plastic is all good, side panels were off so I just put them inside the truck. :beerchug:
This is the tractor and I got the whole deal for less than what he had it listed for without the deck. Happy, happy, happy. http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=35216 |
Nice find Sam,
looks a lot better than the one I got,so it is not a keeper? |

Taking a different route down there, never know what's sitting on the roadside for sale.:beerchug: |
Nice goin' Sam and those Harbor Freight winches work great for the money, I have a few of them.:beer2:
|
Nice find Sam!
|
Sam, nice find. I like your winch setup! Could I see a few more pictures of it, and how you wired it? Mounting? Wire routing?

Nice machine Sam. Which direction was the road trip? Hum, 240 miles, could have been around many of us. Mike:biggrin2:
|
It was in Seven Springs NC. Not too far from Allen C. Wish I had more time I would have made a visit to see him.

Congrats on the machine, Sam! It looks like it's in good shape, especially that deck. Hope it finds a good home, but wherever it ends up, I'm sure it'll be in much better shape by then. Look forward to the progress pics! :beerchug:

Nice pick up Sam!

The deck looks a lot better in pics than up close. It has a couple of rot holes and one of the front wheels is in pretty bad condition but I'm sure I can come up with some way to save it. |
Got it running, wiring is a mess, shut down solenoid on the carb is stuck. I just happened to have a carb for a WG-600 so I swapped them, hooked up my patented Sam Mac fuel tank and she lit right off. Went to take some pics and the battery in my camera is dead. It's being charged at the moment so pics to follow. :beerchug:
|
Hey congrats on the find Sam! Glad you got it running!
Busy day here, looking forward to the pics! |
Good on ya getting it running, gotta love it when it's an easy fix. Don't you know to have an extra charged battery for your camera at all times yet?! :biggrin2: Keep the pics coming!

First 2 pics are the "Sam Mac fuel system" as some of you know the 2182 and the diesels use an electric primary fuel pump. Well on this tractor the tank bushings are totally rotted off so no way to use the tractor fuel system until the fender pan is pulled, tank removed and the issue is fixed. The pump sprayer supplies fuel to the carb. Actually works very well. The other pics are of the patient on the operating table.
|
Items that I see that need attention so far are, pull the fender pan, clean and replace the tank grommets, replace all the fuel lines, pull the rear and replace all the seals and gaskets, pull the PTO and replace the bearings, fix the PTO stop (it's bent) no idea how they managed that. Probably pull the engine, clean and repack the steering CV joint, rewire the whole tractor. New cooling hoses, have the radiator cleaned, install gauges, fix the sloppy trans linkage, new oil and filters all around. This should make a good start on the to do list for the tractor then I have the deck to deal with. Oh yeah let's not forget some paint work. Sure I'll find more stuff to do. Glad I've had plenty of practice on these critters. :bash2: :beerchug:

Sam, I got a PTO clutch from a friend at work off of a 2182 that spun when the bearings locked up and ripped the wire connector off of it. The field assembly was bent up pretty bad. I straightened it and welded some 1/8" flat bar on it where it contacts the torque bar assembly for a larger contact area and to strengthen the field coil due to possible metal fatigue. Sorry no pics, on vacation. P.S. I'm in North Carolina and was going to check that tractor out on my way home if it was still available. Congrats on the new machine.

Sounds like you've got a couple days worth of work ahead Sam:biggrin2: it'll be a great project,
and I'm sure as good as it get's when you're done:beerchug: |

This one is going to take more than a couple days. More like a couple months. With winter coming and no heat in the shop plan is to get it cleaned up good then put it away till spring. Still want to finish the deck for the O first. Mick If I could get one of those deals going it would fund a few projects. Those shows are a riot. |

Who do we pitch it too? Haha :biggrin2: Bill |

Got some quality shop time today. Pulled the fender pan, gas tank and support then it was introduced to the pressure washer. I couple before and after pics. The check valves are both leaking along with the axle seals. Pretty standard considering the age and hours. It has been re painted at some point in its life, crappy job. Oh well it will be a worker anyway. :beerchug:
|
Jeez, so much dirt and crud...neglect right there. No matter how many times I clean one or see pics of one like that, it never ceases to make me shake my head. Always nice to see progress made on these machines, good work Sam, looks like she'll be a worker in tip top shape in no time :beerchug:
