Finally a deal was made..

After a lot of haggling and wrangling, I finally worked out the deal on the 782D. I negotiated an even trade for my 123. You gotta love the barter system. She's not pretty, but the seat is pretty good. I haven't done anything with it yet, but as previously stated, it does and I have heard it run.

I can not wait to get started on it. I hope Todd is up for a blue million questions... lol

cubcadet 10-11-2014 05:48 AM

Congrats on the 782d, good trade.

Tacosteelersman 10-11-2014 06:44 AM

^^ What he said. Congrats.

Sweet deal Earl! Time to pull the fender pan to pull and clean the tank. I use some of the wifey's Dawn dish soap, flush it good and let it dry. Change both tank bushings, replace the fuel shut off valve (951-0171) and run all new lines up front.

Then there are the filters, I use Wix.
Air=46270
Pre-fuel=33972
Fuel=33389
Oil=51064
Hydro=51410
I run Rotella T 15W-40

Then the starter, gp upgrade.
Glow Plugs = NGK Y-103V 2031
China Starter = http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Starter-...ht_5711wt_1362 ****this starter will work but it is not a gear reduction type

I need to find, or maybe someone has, the water pump and and fan belt numbers.
I also ordered some of the ball bushings the other week if you need a few.

Good luck, take pics and keep us posted.:beerchug:

Earl,
Congrats on the smoker! Sounds like a good trade to me. I'm more of a wide frame fan, though. Prolly take a little slack for that one. :biggrin2:

EarlJ 10-12-2014 01:04 PM

Thanks guys, I wasn't quite ready to get this machine. About a million other projects and still not back to work; the guy i traded with wad kind of pushy, guess he needed a runner.

So I plan to have it my winter project behind the 126 completion. I have kinda fallen behind with all the physical issues as of late but I will be back on point sooner than later.. at least I hope...

why do you recommend that starter instead of the gear reduction unit?

V30, I'm not sure. I was thinking that that was a reduction starter but after looking at it IDK. I put one on my 882 that was about the same price but now that company doesn't have any listed on Ebay under Cub Cadet. This is what it looked like with the original on the right.
Attachment 57763

I don't see a reduction starter listed under "Cub Cadet Diesel" on Ebay so I did a search on the part # Todd M. did on his original conversion (Kubota 37560-63011 or 37560-63012) and came up with this.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Starter-Kubo...ht_2498wt_1362

I believe this is the correct starter we need on the D600's & D640's. Is that correct? Sorry, I didn't intend to give out the wrong information again.:bash2:

V30crewcab 10-20-2014 01:28 PM

yeah I looked at it because I may have to upgrade mine, and it didn't look right!
we'll see how it works after I get the alt upgrade done.

The starter on the left is the gear reduction starter.

cubs-n-bxrs 10-20-2014 03:01 PM

Earl congrats on the smoker acquisition. I did the glow plug upgrade on the 1572 using a starter solonoid and the 12 volt plugs . The old gal fires right off. Maybe when the original starter takes a dump I will think about upgrading the starter.

EarlJ 01-17-2015 11:06 PM

Thanks guys, I have yet to start on this one. I still haven't finished the 126, I am genuinely hoping to get to it in the next week or two. Once I get it finished I'll hop on the 782d..maybe. I was kind of thinking to do some mods to the 125 so I could rob the hydraulic pump of it for the 126.. fun stuff..

Is this the correct starter for the gear reduction upgrade for sure? I am ready to order one and do the upgrade since I'm going to pull the motor to clean it up and change the gaskets all around. This machine has been sitting a while and I am sure the gaskets are a bit, shall we say dilapidated. Once I get it up and running I want no leaks in the yard/garden/fields. Also does anyone have a source or number for the gaskets? I think I just need the oil pan, valve cover, etc.. Pretty much everything but the head gasket..

J-Mech 03-03-2015 12:11 PM

Unless your starter doesn't work at all...... I wouldn't buy one until you know the motor is good. No reason to spend the cash just yet unless your starter is bad.

Tiller=$700-$1000
Blower=$400
Haban blade=$400
Haban deck=$300

Thank you, Tonight I finally got a chance to check it out good. I put a battery in, shut off the fuel and hit the key. The starter doesn't engage properly indicitive of a bad solenoid. It took a half dozen key turns and it finally turned over. I definitely need a new one. I took the intake line loose at the filter and the discharge line loose from the injection pump, fresh line filter and a long hose into a 5 gallon can on diesel. The pump runs but nothing comes out. I need a fuel pump, does anyone know the part number? I'm pretty sure my engine is good but desperately needs some wiring replaced and a serious service. I'm going to source the service parts, order the starter from ebay and find a wiring diagram so I can rewire it. Since I plan to spray the tractor I'm going to pull the engine and install all new gaskets, clean it up and spray a fresh coat of paint on it. I'm guessing ebay would be the best source for that. Curious, where is the best place to find the red? I hope to get spraying paint in a couple weeks as it's warming up here. I do have to locate a cat-0 for it so I guess an order to extreme is coming soon too. Any tips or ideas that can assist would be greatly appreciated. I am going to get it running before I pull the engine just to be sure it's good 100%.

I recommend Case IH Iron Guard for the red & white, as for the Kubota Blue (?), our local CC dealer carries it in spray cans, you may want to try yours. I've used Case IH paint many other times and it seems to be a pretty consistent, easy to use paint.

Early, did you check for a clogged filter screen in the tank? When those get plugged, you get nothing out of the pump as well. On my 1572, when that screen got plugged, I was able to take the fuel line off of the bottom of the tank and with the valve open, nothing came out. Yes, there was about 2/3 fuel in the tank.

No, I pulled the line completely loose and went to a fresh can of fuel and it wouldn't pull the fuel up. It could be that it's not creating a vacuum from the fuel can. I may have time to work with it the next couple days. I imagine I'll get it running pretty good

Oak 03-14-2015 12:18 PM

Earl, you should be able to hear the electric fuel pump running. If you don't it's trash.

I have not tried one of these yet but for less than $30 it's worth a try.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kubota-Cub-C...45c93b&vxp=mtr

The 782D's have 2 fuel pumps for some reason, one electric and the other mechanical. They changed that on the later models and did away with the mechanical pump.

To bleed the fuel system on these you need to loosen a nut up near where the fuel line comes into the injector pump. Turn the key on and let the electric pump run until you get good flow out of the bleeder.

Sounds like your starter is shot. That is what one of mine would do, I would have to hit the key 5 or so times before it would kick in.

Another thing you want to check if is the bearings in your cooling fan. I had 2 machines that they were bad in and had to replace the bearings.

Good luck but we need some pics of work in progress!:beerchug:

red56turbo 03-14-2015 12:31 PM

Earl,
Todd's right. When you preheat, you'll hear the pump run. There are different brands out there. Of the five diesels I have, I believe three of them have different brand pumps on them. If you drop a fuel line in the can, the fuel pump should pull the fuel without any problem. Just make sure the line is down and submerged in the fuel and not floating or sucking air. Good luck and keep us posted.

Under edit: My 782D only has the electric fuel pump, no mechanical one. Todd, I think we were chatting about this before. You have an 882 with both fuel pumps to right? Wonder if my 782D is later and they stopped putting on the mechanical ones later in the production run, dunno.

EarlJ 03-23-2015 12:48 AM

Update.....:

Well I spent the evening working on the 782D. I've learned a f ew things as I went a long, so now I know when I find another smoker. I installed the new gear reduction starter, new fuel pump, glow plugs and a good battery. I primed the system and finally the dragon started breathing.. it ran for about 30 seconds then shut down. Fired it back up, working the throttle this time and ran it for a couple mins, not to long as I am unsure of the cooling system. I'll be flushing the radiator and replacing the water pump I'm the near future. What I've learned is the fuel kicks back to the tank via a 5/16" return line, so pumping from a can wastes a ton of fuel. I've dumped the tank and will run new lines when I get paint done on the old girl. If I get in in time tomorrow, I'm pulling the engine and cleaning the machine for said paint. I'm not dipping this one and hopefully I'll have it sprayed by the end of this week. Gaskets, Filters, fresh oil and so forth are next plus new wiring. Then a cat 0 3 point from xtreme. pics will come soon.

Oak 03-23-2015 07:55 AM

Glad you got it running. Pull the fuel tank off and give it a good cleaning. I used dish soap and flush it good with water. Replace the tank bungs and fuel shut off valve and you won't have to worry about it again.
