the 73 is rusty

This was stored in a garage basement for 8 years. I got it from the original owner. Must have been a damp place as there is some serious rust issues.
Tank is different than the usual 7 hp, but it is what it came with when new.I have the manual for it, purchased in April of 1971.Engine #s match the ones in the manual and I even have some old Polaroids of it with a snow plow in 1979 and it shows that tank on it. Unfortunately there was gas left in it and it is rusted. Came with wheel weights, mower deck and a snow plow, which is in good shape as it was stored in the upstairs garage. Hopefully this will be running by Friday. |
Rusty or not that is very nice 73!

That's a nice find Lew, from the original owner even! It looks to be pretty complete, although I don't like the po mod the the clutch pedal.

Nice 73 Lew! I don't know if that deck will clean up. I've seen worse, though. :biggrin2:

tore down the deck to paint it hehehe
About 5 lbs of rust fell off this when I starting removing the parts that were still good. BTW the seat has no cracks on it.:beer2: |
Man, that rust on the tunnel cover and by the mule drive looks baaaddd. Better get the bondo out!
|
Lew I hate to say this but I'm glad you finally got one that's crusty rusty like most of mine have been. It's all there though, and good story behind it. 73s are awesome. Rare list keeper or not really? And...........wheel weights...............of course it does, nice
|
Cool that it was from the original owner. Too bad it wasn't stored properly. If it had been, I bet it would be in awesome shape.
|
BTW what's the dealer sticker say? Local

Was it bought or built in April 71' Lew?
|
Quote:
it was built in march of 1971 sold april 3 1971 |
Dang so close been looking for one built in April 71' for quite some time!!!
|
Nice pick-up Lew :Salute:! It would be interesting to see how well the tractor would actually clean up. I would say a paint job is justifiable on this candidate. Perhaps the mower deck had seen better days, though :crap:

I will let the next owner decide on painting, I spent some time today on it, cleaned the tank out, new points, spark plug, put a different carb on it, changed the oil, and a few other things. It runs!!! It drives, actually the clutch ended up being in good shape considering all rust everywhere else.It could use a anti rattle spring on it. Good running motor no smoke or knocks, Now to get it to charge...time for a adult beverage. |
Wow lew that clutch disk looks almost new. Hey that rhymed. Are we having a simple fix on charging? Cleaning points in regulator I'm guessing, you're always lucky
|
Hope so, definitely not a good ground issue.
|
Good work lew.
|
That's not rusty, it's crusty! Good job on getting it running, Lew.
|
Good basement find Lew:beerchug: hope you get the charging issue resolved.
|
Got the charging issue rectumfied, I had to re solder the gound wire to the case as it was loose.easy peasy

Here are a few of the previous owners pictures he took. The first one is from 1979, the others are from 1971.Seems like he wanted to be sure his blade was mounted correctly.
That bent tie rod is how it looks now.Must have done it prior to that picture being taken Picture of the deck Look at all that rust!!! |
Cool PO pics Lew.
