Cub Cadet Repower?
Has anyone tried one of these engines in their cub? http://www.smallenginewarehouse.com/...tegory=1709753
|
besides looking like crap its kinda pricey, i can rebuild the original engine for less than that provided there was no major failure.
|
I haven't.
Why? I'll sell you a rebuilt "K" series for $675 plus shipping. Why wouldn't you go with Kohler? |
I guess since I'm still learning about engines and how to rebuild them, other options might be go to know about. Though I didn't know I could get one rebuilt by someone for that price range. So you feel that a rebuilt kohler is still a better choice then a new engine with no hours on it? Does this engine offer anything over the stock?
|
i would go with a rebuilt kohler hands down. the motor you linked will look terrible in a cub not to mention you'll have to get creative with the wiring harness to make it work.

hands down with the kohler, tecumseh was not meant to be in a cub cadet
|
Guess sticking with a kohler is the way to go.
|
I agree with everyone else. You would never be happy and it would look like crap in a 102. Plus you will spend more money and the Kohler is better. No reason not to rebuild it.
|
Kohler all the way. :beerchug:

Buy the Tecumseh! They make excellent boat anchors! i agree rebuild the Kohler or find another Kohler out of a similar tractor that is still good.

I guess it depends on what you want to do. Are you doing a restoration or is kohler just getting a little tired? Or are you looking for a little more hp/torque? One trade off I can see is that old kohler is way heavier than the Tecumseh so you'll lose a little mass there. If it were me, I'd do a compression check on the old Kohler and price out what it is to freshen it up before repowering. :beerchug: |
:Morning: Like stated, Kohler is the only way to go. Why degrade a CC with one of those Tok-cum-see's. But its your tractor, so you can do what you want with it. :American Flag 1:

but it does fit the very rare and elusive 103.
there's no reason why a "properly" rebuilt K series can't give you another 30 - 40 years of service. there are allot of hack job rebuilders out there so find a guy that knows what He's doing. Jon's price's are very good for the quality of the overhaul you get and you know He knows the product . |
Besides tecumseh is out of business, kohler is still at it making motors and bidets
