Tire recommendations
My 104 currently has 16X6.50-8's on the front and 7.5- 12's on the rear. The manual calls for a 6-12 on the rear. I am looking at putting Ags and Ribs on it, but don't know what size to go with.
So what are you guys running? Size, brands, tread patterns? Any information is appreciated. TIA, Bob |
I'd go with 23x8.50x12 AGS for the rear, most 104s will have that size on them. I just got a pair of deestone AGS that look real nice and were very affordable.

I bought a 105 one time that had 6-12 ags on the back and wide turfs on the front. Man did that thing look odd, I wouldn't drive/use it until I got some wider tires on the back.
I think it ended up with 8.50s on it. Looks much better that way. FWIW, I do try to run narrow tires on the front of my Cubs (depending on what I use them for) they steer so much easier and it is my opinion that if the steering wheel turns easier, then there is less stress on steering related components and that makes these parts last longer. |
On my 122, I have 16x6.50-8's, which I believe are the originals from Goodyear. I see a lot of pictures of similar in the old brochures. The rear tires are Carlisle Power Trac's, 23x8.50-12 and those have been discontinued as far as I can tell.
My 107 came with a hodge podge of tires, so I replaced them all with 170/60-8 Vredestein V61's (close metric equivalent to a 16x6.50-8) and 23x8.50-12 Carlisle Tru-Powers. I'm happy with all. |
Thanks for the replies guys, keep'em coming.

I have 23x10.50x12 BKT tr315 ag tires on the back of my 147 , they are 6 ply and resonably priced .

Deestones all around. 23X10.5 on the rear.

I have dealt with Miller Tire and really like their products and if you are fortunate enough to have them attend a nearby tractor show you can pick your order up at the show and save the shipping cost.

On a side note, it's not a bad idea to check local tire shops. My local Best one can get the tires. They cost more, but no shipping. Usually they are pretty close to what Miller tire wants by the time you pay the shipping. If it's more than a few bucks ($30 or more) I go with Miller. I prefer not to wait on the mail when I want something. :biggrin2: I'll pay a little extra to get it next day, versus a week. |
I have paid more for a tire from Miller than I could have gotten offline for less because they are a reputable company and have served my family well for farm tires both with Cub Cadet and the larger letter series. Unless something changes, I'll likely continue it.

Good news-The Tire Fairy showed up yesterday in the form of the Big Brown Truck. He left a set of 23X8.50 ags for the rear for the rear and 4.00-8 Tri Ribs for the front. I didn't think about the front rims being too wide for the tires that I ordered.
What size rims should I run on the front with the above listed tires and do you have a good source for them? Thanks |
I prefer the fender well to be full! :bigthink:

I wanted more ground clearance, as this is a blade only tractor. The radials have enough traction to allow the machine to back up a significant grade. :biggrin2: |

I finally got all of the tires mounted on the rims and installed on the 104 yesterday. I am pretty happy with the look.
I know the drill: :TTWWP: I will try and get some posted later. :biggrin2: |

Oh, at Portland, Miller was selling the narrow tri-ribs for $60/pr. with tubes, but the salesman cut me a deal for $50/pr with tubes. Now, I'm going strictly with Miller Tire for all my cubbies. Cub Cadet 123 |
I got my front tires for my model 72 for $45 a piece with tubes from Miller Tire. Though, during the winter I run a Firestone 8.5 rear tire with new two-link tire chains. These chains are cheap, I think I liked my four-link cleated a lot better. But my new chains work great, and that's all that matters!
During the summer, or after the snow stops, I run these 10.5's on the back so I'm not limited to the ground. I leave the chains on the 8.5's, and simply swap out road tires. http://i57.tinypic.com/105yy5i.jpg[/I For the 1450, I really want a new set of Firestone 23 x 10.5 x 12 flotation ag tires, loaded with Rim Guard! To heck with the cast iron weights on the rear, I'd rather have a set inside on the model 72! :American Flag 1: |

I priced some tri ribs from my local tire dealer and he quoted me 27 per tire for deestones, hopefully I can get some money together to go pick them up.

I've been working later than normal the past few days, so I still don't have pictures. On a side note, someone mentioned in a different tire thread about the tri-ribs being a bear to mount to the rim. They didn't lie. If I had to do very many of them, I would be looking to purchase something like THIS
|
Nah... If you had to do very many of them you'd get really good at it.
