Cub "O" Serial # Verification

Painted looks just like 3 digits 568. Removed paint and I think I'm seeing a 5568. I rubbed some chalk over it to try and bring the numbers out. Looking for some input.

Hole in the frame for a creeper vent. Pretty sure it isn't a 3 digit. 4 digit I can believe. :bigthink:

darkminion_17 07-29-2014 10:01 PM

It looks like 568 to me. It must have had a creeper at one time, or they changed out the frame as it probably cracked and was replaced.

Did have creeper. Took it out.

darkminion_17 07-29-2014 10:05 PM

still though it prolly is 568 as the other "5" is not the same type used on the other "5"

ACecil 07-29-2014 10:15 PM

Looks like it has the thin front axle.

Alvy 07-29-2014 10:17 PM

Agreed, looks like 568 to me. My four digit is close to 10k in serial and has no hole on top either. Very cool to see that axle. What's on bottom right of steer tower? Hour meter? It's looking like you got a very early one, WOW, awesome. Love seeing the differences in this model as the serial progression happens.

Yes thin front axle, collar spindles, heavy hood, thin spaced rims and no hole in dash tower where your tail light wire runs through.

Just a big sloppy hole which is on both sides that someone cut to adjust steering column.

Man that kinda stuff bums me out. I got a few windows in my 123 from stupid stuff like that. Still a nice tractor you got none the less, congrats

Oak 07-29-2014 10:23 PM

Yep, looks like it's correct to me. That mark in the casting looks like another 5 but it's out of alignment with the other numbers and doesn't look the same. Like Allen said front axle looks correct and so do the rear wheels. Nice find, I keep looking here in the south for one of those pre-production units but never find any.
What is the story behind it? Did you just pick that one up?

Yes picked it up a few weeks ago. Bought for the weights and creeper (which are off tractor) not knowing the serial number. He wasn't the original owner.

Oak, some of the test units went to Georgia. Namely a couple plantations in Albany Georgia, Tifton, and Atlanta. Sounds like a needle in a haystack but hey, you never know, they may still be floating around and are a few of the rare ones

Looks like a digit is missing between the 6 and 8. I believe, from my lessons in kindergarten class years ago, that it is a number 7....:biggrin2::biggrin2::biggrin2: Really, all kidding aside... it definitely appears to be a legitimate 3 digit number... congratulations!

cnixon 07-30-2014 12:02 AM

3 digit = (3) 4 digit = (1)

Thanks for your help / opinions. Would like to see / hear a few more opinions on serial number.

olds45512 07-30-2014 08:38 AM

I'd say its a 3 digit, have you tried taking a rubbing of it to see what turns up?

IHCadetCollector 10-07-2014 07:47 PM

I'm not being a party pooper but I zoomed in and I think I see another 5 in front of the 568. And reading the other comments I think that it being not in line with the rest dosn't matter. Im open to advice though.

I sold it as not knowing for $185. Guy said here was restoring it.

Ok guys, now you have to post a link. :biggrin2:

Is the seller trying to sell it as a 3 digit? :bigthink:

IHCadetCollector 10-07-2014 09:52 PM

Figured I was a little late, oh well. Still a very early one none the least. I have always wanted an O with collared spindles.

darkminion_17 10-07-2014 09:52 PM

Here you go....

zippy1 10-07-2014 10:29 PM

It's been deleted.....

darkminion_17 10-07-2014 10:38 PM

I see...
maybe he kept it.

red56turbo 10-07-2014 10:43 PM

Sure is kinda funny that it was on Craigslist until it was posted here. Then it got deleted. Hmmm, maybe a coincidence?? :bigthink: :biggrin2:

Thanks for tryin' Lew. :beerchug: :biggrin2:

kyleb179 10-08-2014 05:50 AM

it was sold last night as serial # 5568. when the buyer came over, we used molding clay and took a 'form' of it and the 2 5's are spaced out, but definitely the same stamp. and it looks like someone did try to scratch the first one out, which is probably the reason it looks shady in a picture.

thanks for all the suspicion though, humorous!

c69ss396 10-08-2014 08:25 AM

regardless of it being a 3 or 4 digit it was a decently priced O
