1641 Trans Fan hits shift rod in reverse

Any one have any idea? Picked up the 1641 cheap. Normal problems and all.

All the fan blades were missing. Install new fan, blades hit the shift rod in reverse. Not sure if its the wrong fan or ????

Looks like MTD has changed the design slightly from what came on the 1641 and other Cyclops tractors. You may end up trimming the blades to clear. The pic is the best one I have of the older style fan.

You may be able to flop the linkage to the opposite side Like I did in this 1210.

Tried flipping the linkage. No room next to the frame......

I am pretty sure I have the correct fan......

This is the part number info from Parts Tree.

Cub Cadet 931-3095 (replaces 731-3095) Fan, 10 Blade Hydro

If you bought a 931-3095 then you have the correct fan. How much would you need to trim to make it clear?

eagle1899 07-19-2014 03:16 PM

Wouldn't need a lot. Just the corner of each blade.

That is the part number for the fan I got.

Best suggestion I have for you is maybe try to bend the linkage to clear or trim the fan. When you tried to flip the rod did you flip both ends? Maybe that would work, just thinking. I know even with the older fan they are very close.

I think I figured out why it hitting. When I put the rearend back in (broken and missing mounting bolts) I pushed everything up into a loaded position before tightening the bolts. Hoping that everything would stay tight instead of working its way loose.

I think I'll trim the fan instead of moving the rear.

If it was my tractor that's what I would do.
