882 tire recommendations

Hello I'm looking for some recommendations for a set of AG style tires for my 882. The size is 23-10.5-12. I'm looking for maximum traction and good fit. Pics would be great if possable. Thank You

I just picked up a set of deestone ags for my 108, price was very reasonable and they look great. Traction is also very good even on wet grass with no weight.

I can post pics when i get home.

Here is my 882 with the Firestones and V61's.

Thank you for the pictures. Looks good. What size are your tires?

Oak 07-11-2014 09:40 PM

They are the same stock rims 23x10.5x12. They are made for Miller Tire only.

Diesel Krazy 07-11-2014 11:18 PM

Thanks for the pics. Both sets of tires look great. I like the price of the Destones they are verry hard to pass up for the price. The Firestones are 3x the price and that's hard to pay, but I do like the look of the Firestones. The Firestones do look like a bigger tire? How do the Firestones compare in size to the original turf tires on your 882? I will be mowing with these tires so I think it would be best to stay with the stock tire height or bigger so there would be the least issues with mower deck height. Thank You.

olds45512 07-11-2014 11:35 PM

his firestones are 23x10.50 and my deestone are 23x8.50 which is why the firestones look bigger.

Well that explains it. Thank You for your help.

OldSkull 07-12-2014 12:31 AM

On the left the Deestone, on the right the Carlisle, both are 23"x-10.5"-12"

Todd, how do you like the Firestones? I've spent countless hours on tractors with 23 degree Firestones. I know they are the best ag tire out there.... but do they make much difference on such a small tractor. I plan on getting a set. I have a feeling, they are as good as they look.

Oak 07-12-2014 05:41 AM

I like the Firestones but they are expensive, about $305 to my door. The Carlisle Tru Powers are great too, even better when Stop n Go Tire had them with free shipping but now they don't and they are $240 shipped. I guess it would depend on the old piggy bank the next time I order a set.:biggrin2:

This is what I run on both my 2182 & 1782. They are Carlisle Tru-Power 26X12X12's loaded on 10.5" rims. Got the tires and rims from Xtreme.

Are the Firestones the exact same height as the original tires? Do you mow with this setup? Any issues with the mower deck height adjustment? As far as looks go I have decided I want the Firestones, but before I order them I would like to know how the size compares to the original tires. Also, do the Firestones tread sit completely flat on the ground like the Tru Powers do? It's hard to tell from the pic. How is the ride on concrete, is it a rough ride? I do plan on loading the tires with RimGuard. Sorry about all the questions. Thank You!

diesel krazy and oak your 882's are awesome. nice tractors.

chris hall 07-12-2014 10:48 AM

i have 23x10.50-12 deestones on my 105. i have had carlisle tru powers on my wheel horses and i like them better than the deestones. i bought the deestones for $75.00 apiece so that was the reason i bought them. my dad has a surburban that has goodyear 23x10.50-12 and they are bigger than my deestones for sure.

THANK YOU! So far it's between the Tru Powers and the Firestones. I'm really leaning toward the Firestones. I just need to find out for sure witch tire, Firestone or Tru Power is the closest to the original tire diameter before I make my final decision. Hopefully it will be the Firestones, they look really nice!! Thank you everyone.

I don't know the answer, but I DO know it's not enough difference to matter. If you want the Firestones, get them. You aren't going to loose speed if that's what your concerned about.

I am more concerned with the mower deck height than ground speed. As long as the mower deck works properly I will be happy. I recently found that these 882's don't have much travel on the mower deck lift. Thank You.

J-Mech 07-13-2014 10:38 AM

If you lose any height, it won't be any more than a half inch. Run with it.

Run a tape measure around what you have now and see if you can get one of the guys that has the type of tire you are thinking about to also measure their's or call the manufacturer who should be able to supply you with the circumference measurement. Just my 2 cents, your results may vary. :beerchug:

Diesel Krazy 07-13-2014 01:39 PM

I measured my current tires and they are aprox 22 1/4" tall to the center of the tire with the tires on the tractor and 10 lbs of air in them. I have not measured around the tire. I have dealt with lots of tires in my life and it's crazy how you can measure two different tread type tires from the same manufacturer and they will measure different, even though they say the same size on the sidewall. Even the size quoted by the manufacturer on their website is not always accurate in my experience. I most likely will just order them and hope for the best. Mabe I'm just overthinking things as usual! I am having them filled with RimGuard when I get them mounted, so between the high price of the Firestone tire and the price of the RimGuard it is not going to be cheap, almost half of what I paid for the 882. To me the price paid is soon forgotten when you get a quality product you are happy with. I'm just trying to make sure I'm making the proper choice. Thank You.

Oak 07-13-2014 01:56 PM

I'll pull my 882 out today and get some measurements for you. I have 10 diesels and never used a mower deck on one of them:HeadScratch: so I will measure off of the height of the fender pan. I think you will be happy with that set up.

10 diesels? No wonder I had a hard time finding a diesel, you have them all! LOL! If you could measure like you said and then also from the ground to the tallest part of the tire that would be great. More pics of your 882 would be great also. We all love pics. Nice Machine. Thank You!

Let us know what the Rim Guard costs. I've looked into it, but my tire guys refuse to deal with it. I like CaCl2 anyway. It's heaviest. CaCl2 is a little over $2 a gallon at my tire shop, IIRC. So 7 gal (per tire) is pretty cheap.

I had my tires filled on my Case 646 FEL about 6 months ago and it was just under $4 a gallon where I got it from. I found a place that would do it for closer to $3 a gallon but it was a longer drive to the place. RimGuard weighs a little less than chloride but it's not corrosive or poisonus to animals. Chloride will eat through your rims if the tube leaks, and kill your animals if they eat it. RimGuard does not require a tube so it works out to be the same price or cheaper than calcium chloride. RimGuard does require metal valve stems because it will dissolve the glue that holds the metal part into some rubber valve stems. Here is a pic of the stubby metal stems in my 646 rims, I will be using them on my 882.

the firestones are really nice. it's an investment buying tires so get whatever makes you happy. i mounted the 23x10.50-12 deestones on wider wheels . they have a weird offset but, worked with my 42' mowing deck.

I have the Tru Powers and v61's on my 1872. I can't say enough good stuff about them. Got them from Miller Tire on a sale with free shipping.

All 4 filled with wwf.

Put True powers and v61 tires on the 782D
Do not know if it will change your height.
I have a front axle from a 1863 on the 782D

Diesel Krazy 07-15-2014 10:08 AM

I just talked with Miller Tire and got measurements for the Carlisle Tru Powers and the Firestone Floatation 23. Both are said to be 23.3" tall. The Firestones are 10.4" wide and the Carlisles are 10" wide. They told me the Carlisles are slightly more flat across the tread surface and sit flatter on the ground.
