I need help on the price!!!
7 Attachment(s)
i have found a cub cadet 782D on craigslist and have no idea what to offer the post just says entertain me with an offer.. the guy says it runs great, drives, and doesn't have any leaks... i am on a very tight budget for this and i would like to ask him how much he wants for it and that i cant go no more then 1000...
does that seem like a low baller? what do u guys think? and what do u guys think its worth?? thanks cale |
If he doesn't have it priced, that's his fault. Offer him $400. If he laughs, say, "Well, then price it!!!". I wouldn't pay more than $1000. Actually for the shape, I wouldn't give more than $750. He says it runs, yet it has no battery and looks like it's been sitting a while. Maybe the last time he used it it ran......5 years ago. :bigthink:

Welcome to OCC. Hope you get the 782D, looks great. Wait for a price. Those are some cool machines. I'm sure you're have some initial maintenance $$ into it but yes, make sure to see it run, $750 to $1000 seems ok
|
Thanks guys I have asked him about that battery aand he said he put it in one of his pulling tractors... And do u guys think that the tractor will take much work or is it in decent shape?
Thanks so much again!! |
It would be hard for you to post enough pics for us to tell how much work it needs. Running is a big deal on one of those diesels. If it needs injection parts..... big $$$. Otherwise, just like any other 782.
|
Hard tell how much work it will need from a pic, i say if it runs and drives ok and you can get it for 750 to 1000 then you'll do good. If your not at least a decent mechanic and it doesnt run right then id walk away, that diesel will get pricey if you have to throw parts at it or pay someone else to work on it.
|
Do what you can to pick up that machine if it's in good running condition and a fair price. I think you will like it a lot. I just recently bought almost the same machine, an 882 and I love mine.
|
I NEVER... EVER put a price on someone else's merchandise.
Once you get there, ask him how much he wants for it... No matter what he says, tell him that you can't afford it. Then see where it goes from there. Do not offer him your top dollar until that's all that is left. Good luck! |
How many hours are on the meter? I with the others. I never price someone else's tractor.
|
I agree with the others. Let the owner put a price on it. He also says it runs, so have him put a battery in it and attempt to start/start it for you. I don't see a three point on the back.
It is still a diesel. And I've seen alot of diesels sell over the years, and have four diesels myself. The paint and tires don't look bad. Has a mower deck. Appears complete. Is missing some tin on the muffler, not a big deal. How many hours does it have? These kubotas will run for thousands of hours with proper maintenance. Pull off the tunnel cover and check the driveshaft. Diesels eat driveshafts. To rebuild it, parts from CC will run ya a couple hundred. Take a 9/16 wrench with you and check the bolts going through the frame into the rear case. They tend to loosen and strip out. If it runs good and the driveshaft isn't toast, it would be a steal at $1000. I've seen alot of comparable 782D's running sell for $1500+. Something about those red smokers. Nonrunning, still probably $750 since it's a diesel. Just my :TwoCents: worth. I hope for you he doesn't know what he has. If he does, he's probably trolling and hoping you offer high dollar. Good luck and keep us posted. |
Thanks for all the help guys... because he lives so far away we have dicided that he will make a video of it with a cold start, idling ect... Engaging the blades using the hydro lift and moving forward and backward.. Thanks again for all the help feel free to keep commenting with tip or opinions I will highly appreciate everything.... I'll keep u guys informed on it all with pics if I can..
Thanks again Cale |
It shows 954 hours and I'll ask if he can get a pick on that driveshaft I completely forgot about that!!! Thanks

is it the one in minnesota the dont have pics in the ad if so he said he wants 1800 for it
|
Looks like another one in front of it. In the long term storage truck body.
So he might know what it is worth and is now fishing for a buyer at a high price. Or maybe he needs some quick cash to feed his pulling hobby. |

I'm with Josh. Looks like its in pretty good shape and still has the "Diesel Throttle Off" & "IH" badges on it and the tins look good. I would plan on the driveline being shot and needing $100 to $300 to replace to make 100%. If I got that for $1k I would be a happy camper. How bad do you want it is the question?
|
ya its the one in Minnesota... haha now my hopes on it have fell a bit cause from what u guys have told me now it seems like he knows what he has.. ill try my best to see if i can drop him down more on the price... he told me that the fitting to the hose on the injector pump is leaking a bit so idk what that means or what its gonna take to replace or fix that fitting!!! thanks so much guys keep the feed back coming i will really need it a lot!! thanks again

At some point, you just have to have the pricing conversation. Else a lot of back and forth and time and energy is wasted.
I tend to prefer that owners price their own equipment. If they refuse its because they want to play 'games' back and forth on negotiation. Im not one to enjoy the game, so when that happens I just state what my price is that I would be willing to pay, and explain it (other references of similar machines at those prices). If the seller takes this as low balling then, they are just wanting more than its worth and I can walk away knowing there are others out there. imo, a 782D that runs will go for more than $1000. I could be wrong of course (and often am). |
I looked at one in central MN about a year and a half ago. The guy was a puller. I would bet its the same one.
When I looked at it the outside was in fair shape but inside it was kind of crusty and rusty. while I was driving it the throttle cable came loose. Basically it had been sitting for a long time with no attention. On the plus side it did start, run and drive. If you want something to strip down and redo it might be a good option but if you want to put it to work right away it seemed like a "one thing after the other" rig. I think he was at $1800 when I had looked at it if I remember right. |
Well the guy hasn't responded to me in a while (2 days) so I've decided that I'll try to look for another one in better engine shape( cables, hoses, INJECTOR PUMPS!)and see where that goes thanks everyone for all the help and ur opinions I love how we all worked together. It was great!
If i find another one I'll let u guys know about it!!! Thanks soooo much guys I can't express how much I appreciated all this!! cale molski |
is he says the fitting on the injector pump that fits on the hose leaks is that a big problem?!!
