Bought a 71

I think this will be a fun project. I have a rear end with pto and a creeper that's going in it. Will be a long term project, don't expect pics for a while.

Congrats on the 71, Tim!

Looks great Tim, almost all original, even the tires. Very nice 71.

I agree.:beer2:

One fender is dinged up pretty bad and the tractor was painted with a brush. What year did IH stop using a brush and start spraing paint? :bigthink:

ACecil 06-03-2014 09:45 PM

Nice 71, Tim!

larry03061976 06-03-2014 10:09 PM

Nice 71! Doesnt look bad the way it is.

Cub Cadet 123 06-03-2014 10:33 PM

Looks like the one that was up in the Fort Wayne area of Indiana. I talked to the guy about it when he first advertised it as an 8hp engine, but I have way too many irons in the fire. Looks like a nice cub project for you Tim. Did you drive up to get it? If so, I hope that you stopped at Arnold's Restaurant in that area--lots of great ice-a-cream!! (where's the yummy smilies?)

I had missed this thread I guess. Nice score Tim!! Looks like a really good 71! Way better than the fendered one I found!

Cubcrazy 06-04-2014 08:47 AM

Very nice looking 71 Tim!:beer2:

dbuck 06-04-2014 09:04 AM

:Morning: Nice 71 Tim. Arnolds in Decatur, IN has some nice looking car hops too, along with great food and ice cream. :American Flag 1:

Ive been looking for a 71,72 or 73 but everyone I find doesn't have fenders and I don't wanna buy a tractor then have to spend 2 or 300 on fenders. Congrats on finding one that already has some goodies.

FINALLY started getting parts back from the paint shop. We used PPG bc/CC. May take a while, but I'm glad to start putting it back together. Should be downhill from here.Attachment 54459

Looking good.

I really must stop jumping in here daily!!
Every time I do I see something like this that inspires me to start another project even though I have one in process. I have a 72 that would look real good just like yours.

The harness I have is for a 70 with push button start, my 71 is key start. How much trouble to adapt harness? Well, I guess it defies gravity. I'll let a mod flip it for me.

cubcadet 07-26-2014 04:34 PM

Looks great.

jeepchicken5000 09-18-2014 07:58 AM

tim really great looking 71, I saw your pic on another thread and decided to go ahead and do mine up. Don't really see to many of these also wonder why ?. Do you know if the wider 23 8.5 will fit with the factory fenders, I see mine has the wider rears. Mine is a key start as well except someone wired it with an on off switch it seems:bigthink:

The wires that are supposed to hook up to the push button will instead hook to the solenoid and you will have to make a wire to go from the start terminal on the key switch to the start terminal on the solenoid.

Looks very nice. I am working on a 126 for my daughter and plan to use BC/CC as well. This is helping to inspire me to get back at it :)
