1200 Clutch Flex Disk

Hey guys, this may be the cheap side of me talking here. Has anyone sucessfully rebuilt a flex plate? I mean found the right spring steel plate and attached it back on the 3 stud plate, then drilled the proper holes to bolt to the flywheel? I know the new ones are around $120.00, just trying to save money and possibly make it stronger than an oem. Probably a waste of time, just wonderin. Thanks, TB

You mean pressure plate? Or are you talking about the clutch disk? There is no "flex plate" in a clutch. :bigthink: I have no idea what you are talking about, or where you got that price.....

You can buy a complete clutch assembly rebuilt from Mark Hellrung (Yosemitesam, or the yellow sponsor at the top of the page) for $175.

I think he is talking about the 3 pin driver.

Yes, the 3 pin drive plate. I also have seen it called a flex plate/disk. Im referring to the the thin flexable metal that is riveted to the backside of it, the part that bolts to the flywheel cup. Sorry, I should have been more clear in my question. Thanks, TB

I have a good three pin driver I'll sell you. Message me if interested.

Am I missing something? A three pin driver doesn't have anything riveted to it.... I have several laying around. Did someone already "repair" the one you have?

The flex style 3 pin driver has a thin spring steel plate riveted to the back side of it. The solid 3 pin drivers do not. Apparently thats why they break so easy. Here is my pathetic excuse for a flex style 3 pin driver lol. Thanks, J mech, I did visit Mr. Hellrungs site. Not a bad price for the clutch setup. Thanks, TB

The quiet line 3 speeds had a 3 pin driver that would flex with the ISO bushings to keep the drive line from binding. I fixed that problem by installing solid engine mounts and using a standard 3 pin driver on my nephew's 1200.

Thanks DX, I may go to that configuration in the future. For now, I am going to stick with the rubber mounts. Thanks, TB

I completely forgot the QL's had that stupid driver...... and I have a 1000.
Wonder if you could use a regular driver anyway? :bigthink:
TB, I'll look and see if I have the one off my 1000. Motor is out now getting rebuilt, and I'm going solid mounts. So, I for sure am not putting that junk driver back in. If it's any good, I'll let you know. :beerchug:

Thanks J-Mech, I appreciate that. I did see some flex material for sale at some places. I need to determine the true thickness of the flex material first. Still wondering if anyone has done the "fix". (yea, they have replaced it) Thanks, TB

I've used the standard 3 pin driver on a few now .I knock out the hub with the solid bushing in it and use a lathe to enlarge the hole to the right size to fit over the bushing hub with the swivel ball bushing in it then bolt it to the engine just like the flexible drive plate

Hmm great idea dale c. That is surely something to consider. Thanks! TB

I did the same thing with my 1200. Added solid motor mounts and a 3 pin driver and was set!!! Works great and cost WAY less than that stupid flex disk.
