K321 ?
:Morning: Has anyone converted a K321 to a gear drive starter from the S/G. If so will the gear drive starter bolt on where the S/G bolts? This engine is in a CC149. Thank you for your time. :American Flag 1:

yes it does. as long as your block has the scallop above the mount pad for the starter. pretty sure all the 14 blocks did, I know not all the 10's and 12's did

My K301 in my 129 was converted. Just so you know, the front bearing plate, flywheel and tins also have to be changed. The flywheel with the ring gear is larger diameter, so the tins have to be larger to accommodate. The bearing plate has to be changed so that you have the bolt bosses to fasten the stator.

14 already has the larger bearing plate. might not have the cut out for the starter. I know the shroud don't have the hump needed

:Morning: Thank you Guys for your replies. I have a few jobs in the shop to get out before under taking this project. I am not interested in going the stator route, If possible it will stay battery ignition. Does anybody know if the flywheel has the indentation for the ring gear? There is no pop out for the gear starter on the shroud, so that being was there any difference in the overall dia. between the gear starter and the S/G flywheel shrouds? Thank you for your time. :American Flag 1:

Matt,
I had to read Don's post twice. Look. Quote:
He went on to say that a stator is a cleaner set up. And, I would agree. Thing I'm curious about on your 129 Matt is the rod for the PTO. Does it clear the starter? Or did it get modified too? :bigthink: If it were me, on a 1X9, and I was going to the trouble to change the motor to an AQS, I think I'd just put an electric clutch on it too. Why not. |
OK, so you are right. I read it wrong. Sorry.
The PTO linkage clears the starter just as well as it cleared the S/G. The starter is slightly lower and back towards the flywheel a little, but not as much as you may think. The link is original. I've thought about the electric clutch, especially since this tractor needs to be rewired in some kind of bad way, but the mechanical clutch works great, and if it should ever need to be rebuilt, I would probably rebuild it with the double springs for extra clamp load just for any how. This is cheaper to boot. Here I am hijacking someone else's thread. |
:Morning: Thank you Guys for all your replies. After doing some research and checking the prices on what new parts are still available. As I have no donor engine and unless I can find some good used parts/another K-321 that needs rebuilt and is set up for gear drive starter, this project is not going to happen. If it does happen you have conviced me to go the stator route. Matthew, hi-jack the thread all you want, this is valuable information. As for the E-clutch. I will pass as I just recently rebuilt my clutch and it has the double springs. :American Flag 1:

A donor engine could be a K-241, K-301 or a K-321. All have interchangeable pieces as far as these components are concerned.
