782 Front Wheel bearings 941-3002 ( 741-3002)
Are the dimensions of these bearing unique to Cubs because the price of a cheesy Flanged Bearing should not be over $10 let alone 2x that price.
At a quick measuring they look like 1" inner and 2.125 outer. I hate to pop one and and possibly damage a not so bad bearing just to bring it to a Bearing place for alternates. |

Maybe this will help.

Iv been getting the number off the bearing or look in a parts schematic and ordering off of ebay. Usually a lot cheaper.the bearing number should be same dimensions regardless of mfg. Worked
well for me the last couple years ... |
Napa has them, but I don't remember the exact price.

How did you get the part? Did they spend the time to size it for you? |
I just told them that I need a 1" front wheel bearing for a Cub Cadet. We do seem to have an exceptional store here, unlike some.
|
Ok, after my other post I looked where I put part numbers like that and found it.
1" wheel bearing Napa is 7-08412 $13.05 the 3/4" bearing is 7-04292 $9.90 |

thanks |
I bought some replacements at a local bearing distributor. As they told me the original designed ones were hot rolled to create the flange while the replacements I got from them were machined and more precision made. Still after running a couple of years, I had one of those higher quality bearings shatter the inner race. Was a real bear getting in apart as it swedged itself to the axle shaft while under load. When I finally got it apart, i replaced it with the same bearing but I also added 2 non-flanged bearings (and spacers) to back up the outer flanged bearings and spread the loading out. I have my fingers crossed and after 2 seasons it seems to be holding together fine.

It was actually cheaper to get them on eBay from Minion than NAPA, even after my "discount". |
Minion has them for around $21 for the good ones. Still too much for what they are.

Bearings like the one pictured in post #2 are like OEM and will have to be packed and adjusted once installed as well and are meant to be serviced periodically.
This is the 1st thing you should do when you buy an old Cub w/unknown history, for many of which will likely will have been a life of abuse and neglect. Just give the steering wheel a bit of a turn each way, and observe closely what happens BEFORE you reach for your wallet and this will become readily apparent. Many so called "restored" tractors, sadly, will also fall into this category. |

Are the NAPA bearings a Chinese product, or USA like MTD is selling?

Came up as $22.00 each at the Oxford, PA store. (closest to my house) Or they were $24.50 at the Newark, DE store. (by my workplace) So pricing must be some type of state/regional thing even those these store are pretty close together. |

I can't imagine this hobby lasting much longer if parts prices double again in the next decade. |

We only have 4 left so don't miss out. 30.00 each at Cub Cadet...

Well, the drag strip just south of town seems to be going wild every weekend and that's a hell of a lot more expensive a hobby.....er tax write off for some, than these puny tractors.

I can get CC parts at cost + 5%, so probably similar, but didn't want to wait on the dealer nonsense :D |
They are Chinese, not a problem for the tractor that I'm putting these on since I don't run it much but it may matter to some.

The currently available MTD issue is made in Worcester, MA USA by Lutco. B1SB6534 64F64PP
|
They have used those bearings since they started offering 1" spindles and Shep was a pup.
Nothing new here. |
Yup. I was asking what the OEM of the NAPA bearing was.
|
Probably "The Far East" like 99% of everything else these days.

Update on the NAPA wheel bearings above. The packaging says "assembled in China" however when I actually pulled the bearing out, they are Lutco USA bearings. Not sure what that's about but I won't complain.
|
That's very good info. Same exact part in a different package, without MTD's excessive tariff added to it.

32 posts about wheel bearings, seriously? You lookup the part # then Google Cub Cadet what ever the part number is, end of problem.

Just went to use my 149 the other day to do some food plot prep. I had to drive it about a 1/4 mile on a laneway and right away noticed the one wheel bearing was shot and I need it now as there was (should have been) a break in the rain predicted. I found some on Amazon with a two day delivery and it looked like a pack of four for $18. But reading the comments, one guy said, "... beware, this is for only one bearing...".
So being as they are probably cheap, offshore bearings, I order four. Yup, you guessed it, I got four packs of four! Anyway, I popped the inner seal off and re-greased two and installed them. Probably fine for tilling, but no way will they stand up to loader work. The bearing bores on the rims are about shot too, so I may machine a tube for some huskier bearings and weld those into the rims. |
