Stainless Steel 129 muffler

This is my idea of a forever muffler. I built it out of stainless steel. The original muffler is about 3" in diameter. This one is 3 1/2". It is actually the tube that encases a 4" well pump. I also redesigned the baffle system. I, of course have not put it on any flow meter to compare flow to the original muffler, but the way it is designed, it should have equal or better flow to the pipe coming into it. It is also quieter than the original design. To me it sounds good and also looks good. Looks going on the outside, could you cut it in half length-wise so we can see the baffles? :ExtremeFunny:

Really how did you put baffles in? I'm thinking you built everything on a center tube then slide it in?

Nice muffler.:beer2:

Let me try to put together some drawings and post them here. It may be tonight or tomorrow. Maybe I should put a patent on the design before I post. LOL :biggrin2::biggrin2:

I bet if the internals were built exactly like original and all of the material were merely a gauge or two thicker, a muffler would be much quieter and last much longer.

SS, even better.

P.S.
Yours should now be a $5,000 muffler on ebay.

I'd love to have one but that's a hard price to find $$ for.

I have less than $50.00 invested in this muffler in materials. But..... if you would pay me for my time, you couldn't touch it for $150.00.

Worn out well pumps are free. I just picked up one on Friday. See your local well service man. I bet he's got a stack of them he would love to get rid of.

Nice job Matt. I know what it takes to make something like that from scratch. Takes a while, I like it. Great craftsmanship and way to use the OE mount position too, very cool

mike melillo 05-05-2014 09:34 PM

Very cool, did it come out quieter? That would really make me happy, no rust, and quieter.

Here are some drawings of the muffler design. The drawings are not to scale, and my SS muffler doesn't show how I supported the larger pipe in the shell, but this should give you an idea how the original muffler was designed and how my muffler is designed.

Hey Matt, I don't know if you know this... But there are a couple guys here that do custom stuff.. I am sure one of the Mod'S could point you in the right direction if you want to make and sell these awesome mufflers.. How well do you think you could adapt you design to say a 1250??.. if your making stock style mufflers.. This is a score you got on your hands.. Nice muffler, very nice!!:beerchug:

Nice work! Nothing wrong with quiet and long lasting!
