Picked up a 85 today

Went shopping last night and found this 85. Called the guy, came to find out he was only an hour away, and the weird thing... he's the guy that bought my first Original.
We struck a price the both of us were happy with. So this afternoon we went to get the Cadet 85.
The dude said it didn't run when he got it, but had spark and would sputter with spraying gas in the carb. Seats in the truck, so it's all there.
Did I need it? NO! But why not?

Very cool I like it!:beer2: I wouldn't mind having a rear engine Cub if I came across one. Congrats!

Todd, you'll have a blast with your RER. I really enjoy mine. Wish I had the time to tinker with mine more...

Nice find on the 85, Todd!

J-Mech 05-02-2014 12:49 AM

Congrats Todd!!

Fix it up? WHY NOT!

I swear when I was a kid, we had one of these either in the corner of the shed, or in our dump. I dunno..... maybe it was just an old go-cart. :bigthink::biggrin2::biggrin2:

Anyone know where to get manuals for this thing?

Cubcrazy 05-02-2014 06:31 AM

Congrats on the 85 Todd! The fiberglass looks in good shape too!:beer2:

Both. There isn't much to them, but with the belts and chain drive it would be nice to know a little more about them.
Thanks guys:beerchug:

Myron Bounds (SP?) a member here is kinda the RER king. If you can't find him, Roland can help you. I think I have a PDF file of the motor manual. What are the model and spec numbers of the engine? Post those and I'll check. :beerchug:

I have manuals for the breaks and scatters. But would like something on the belts, pulleys, basically everything under the shell. I have to go into town tomorrow and get my bearing for the 782 pto so I'll ask my dealer buddy if he has something in a hard copy, I can copy.
I'll report back and let you know if I can't get something.

Hi Zippy,
I printed both of the service manuals for my Cubs on the Cub Cadet website. I googled service manual for my mower and came up with various options - some wanted me to pay for the manual, but I finally found it on the Cub Cadet site.

If you send me the model number I will look around for you and see what I can find.

Thanks for the info.:beerchug:
But as always, I had another brain fade. A month or so ago I picked up the service manual, so I'm good to go. This thing is sitting back in the way back corner and I pretty much forgot about it till I read your post. Right now it's the last thing on the list of things to get done:bigthink:

Not sure I'm a guru on the subject but I'll help if I can. I have an Cadet 75 RER and all manuals.

You bet, those were popular with us kids as go-carts!

Zippy, if it were mine, I'd be fixing this mower up! I really like them, and would fit the bill for smaller yards. Mowing with a classic, now I like that!

My grandfather had an 85 and I spent many hours mowing with it. It was fun to drive but it took forever to get the yard mowed with that little deck lol

just picked up an 85 special yesterday and mowed some 2 ft. tall grass today and it did awesome they just dont make them like that anymore

Cool shopping trip you went on Todd. That one looks really good, most are total basket cases.
You said you didn't need it, I think you did.:biggrin2:
