The 128...
1 Attachment(s)
This was a local craigslist find... Getting like lew now:biggrin2:
Not running, po said engine was rebuilt in the 90s and was painted red. he said it was his last cub out of 10 he had for his seeding business, no implement lift handle. This tractor used to have an auxiliary hydro lift for a seeder on the back, so it has a coupler connect.:biggrin2: |

It's all cut out because he said he used to have a counter weight on the front, I don't know yet if I will leave it alone or replace it, the grill casting that is , not the frame, but the 12hp engine is worth what I paid, no pto clutch either.:bash2:Oh well, who thinks I should part it out?:biggrin2:

Question: there is constant power to the outside post on the starter generator even with the key off, I put in a new battery, and all it does is making a clicking sound from the solenoid.:bigthink: it's not supposed to do that right? Any ideas. Oh and the generator makes a humming sound I can barely hear, and the positive battery cable needs replaced.

Nick ,
to be like me first off you have to be good looking. the s/g is humming because it does not know the words to the song. I think you have parts machine on your hands. my local scrap yard had four of those one time, all 128's. The one you have may have come from there. I hope you paid fitty dollars for it. |

If you can give us the melody, maybe we can help get you the lyrics to teach it. Bill |
Nick,
As much as I hate to see 'em parted, that looks like a good parts donor. Neat story behind it though. It's amazing the mods different companies do to make things work for them. |

Nick, I also think it's a good parts tractor.
|
Guys, I changed the starter, it cranks now, not parting it out.
|
Congrats on the 128 Nick! :beer2:
|
I'd agree not to part it out, but I'd be looking for a donor to get a replacement frame and tunnel cover for it. 128s are neat. My FIL had one. That's how I learned about Cub Cadets nearly 40 years ago.
My father in law was quite the character. Retired full bird Colonel, US Army, served in the south pacific--Iwo Jima, Marshall Islands, etc. Bought a 100 acre farm in the far west suburbs of Washington DC when stationed at the Pentagon after the war. Anyway, he bought a new Cub Cadet (the 128) and a new Cadillac on the same weekend. His neighbors came over to see his Cub Cadet. |
I am not parting it out. I am just going to bolt a plate over the cut out part, I rewired the ignition wires.:beer2:
|
It's sad to see them chopped up like that, but I have little room to talk as I configure my tractors to do the jobs that I want them to. Although in my defense, I do everything possible to ensure that my tractors can be returned to factory condition with very little effort.
I think that on your next trip to the St. Louis area, you should just load that 128 up and drop it off here at the house, I don't believe that you need the headaches associated with putting that one back together. I've been on the look-out for a couple more 128s anyway, but I can't seem to find any that are half way local. What are the hydraulic couplers hooked up to? |

Cleaned the points and drained the gas. Got it running, no smoke.:beer2:

Just changed the motor oil and added marvel mystery oil, the drain plug I replaced with a new one, old one was stripped pretty bad.

Nick,
Good you got it good,BUT pictures or it didn't happen... |

Good job nick. I like it, it's got character. Did the PO tell you what the cheese grader in the tunnel cover was for?
Edit: never mind, switches that went to the trailer harness gimmick, got it |

Nick,
Don't you have to go to school?? If so, you must spend all other hours of the day working on cubs and buying them. :biggrin2: There are a ton of those frames out there. I'd just swap it out for a different one. A little more work at the get go, but then it's done. I'm sure you've got a couple xtras layin' around. Bet Mike does. :bigthink: :biggrin2: |

I can hook you up with a frame Nick!:beer2:
How many days you get off for school a year? You just had a week off for Easter break and now you are off again!:bigthink: |
