WF Mule drive pulleys
I have a 129 that I am fixing up to be a general yard machine and garden worker. I just purchased a tiller for it and am wanting to rebuild the mule drive. I would like to replace the stamped steel pulleys with solid steel pulleys. Would anyone have any leads as to where I can get the solid pulleys? Part numbers?? NAPA, O'Reiley's, Oregon, Stens, Rotary, JD, etc, etc. Any input appreciated. Thank you.

+1 I need them too.

Mule drive pulleys are available at both these sponsors though they don't look like solid steel. Someone else will surely come along with a solid steel version...

check out Sugarmaker's threads on his 129 refresh of tiller and mule drive.

I might have one used one,I called one place and it is $70 each wow.The good thing with these you remove the snap ring and replace the bearing when it wears out.
I am sure that mc master carr has something like it.let me know if you need measurements. |
Not sure but I may have a couple in need of bearings, gotta dig through my stash of stuff that looked like it was to good to trash that I have no use for but I better save it cause I may need it someday. One of the reason our shops are too small. :biggrin2:
I will report back with my findings.:beerchug: |
I am looking for a pair too. Anyone know a source?

I just rebuilt a pair of solid pulleys. The bearings were $3.57 each from usabearingsandbelts.com the part number is 6300-2RS. They are a metric bearing sealed on both sides, size 10x35x11mm. The brand of them is RB Tech, and the quality rating was better than a SKF bearing which was $30+. I have tilled with them a few hours so far and they seem to be working good. So if you can find a set with bad bearings you can go this route.
|
I don't really care if they have bad bearings or not. I have easy access to bearings. If someone would have a set of pulleys that you would be willing to part with, PM me and give me a price. Having the snap rings included with the pulleys would be nice as well, but not necessary. Thank you.

Is there anyone else that has one for sale? Lew, what about the ones you had pictured? Any other leads anyone? |

I'll take the one without the bearing to the machine shop and find out what it will cost to make a few for you guys.
|
Great idea, Sam. I was thinking of turning out a pair on my own lathe, but I didn't have a pattern to go off of, so I was kind of lost there. Keep us posted with any updates. Thanks.

You would be better off with a used one. The ones I have are not for sale.:BlahBlah: |

I looked at that already. Right idea, but the ones I need are 3" and these are 4" It might not be impossible that these would work, but I'm not sure and I would rather have the right ones. Thanks for checking anyway. |
Sam,
Please let me know when you have a price. I need 2 for my tiller. Bob Elliott |
Back with price soon, I'm on the way to the shop in a couple minutes.
|
OK it looks like the pulleys with the 2 snap rings will be around $37.00 ea. I'm trying to verify if the bearings that I have in my pulleys (NICE 7842-5) are the same as the 6300-2RS that danfeste posted about. NICE is no longer in business so I called USA bearings.

Guys
After talking to a couple bearing reps, the bearings that came in the factory Cub pulleys are NLA. What I'm thinking about doing is to make the pulley slightly thicker so that we can run the same bearing that all the other mule drive pulleys use. Shouldn't make much difference. What do you guys think? I'll need to order at least 6 so if I get commitments for the 6 I'll proceed. |
Sam, do you know which bearing that would be? Is it the 6300-2RS Some very common bearings that most people have access to are 6201, 6202, and 6203. I would think that a 6201 would be a good bearing to use. I am about ready to commit to two pulleys, but I would like a little more information on the bearing first. Thanks again for diving into this for all of us.

Any of those would work and are readily available. I have a bushing that fits the 6203 bearing to bush it to 3/8. That bushing is readily available through Rotary, Stens, or Oregon. I would have to investigate on other sizes of bushings. I commit to two pulleys. If you can't get a commitment on four more let me know. I might be willing to buy more than two, but would rather not at this point. Thank you.

Hello Sam. From reading your posts, I know that you are a busy man. Just wanted a little update on the mule drive pulleys if you know any more. Thanks for helping.

I will see what I can do. I may end up purchasing more pulleys than I first wanted to buy. I certainly want two. I'm not sure about the other four. I will have to get back with you. BTW, the 6203 bearing is metric and the ID of the bearing or the OD of the bushing is 17 mm, not 5/8. 5/8 is just slightly smaller than 17 mm, so a 5/8 bolt will easily go through a 6203 bearing.
|
Did anything happen with this? Put me down for (2) pulleys if you are planning on making any.
|
Just found this discussion. Put me down for a pair of pulleys.
|
|
I thought the OP was going to have sets machined that take the replaceable bearing? That's what I would like to get.
