My 149 and it's problems.
5 Attachment(s)
Put the 149 up on the lift today to do a good check out. If I was smart I’d part it out but I’m not all that smart. Here is what I have found so far. PTO is toast, broken and missing bolts that hold the rear end in place (and you guys thought it was only the aluminum rears the had this problem) choke and throttle cables are frozen and need to be replaced, drive shaft is a mess, gotta love the grade 5 bolt (I have a plan for this) axle seals are leaking (BTDT) Oh yeah 2 of the 4 bolts that hold the engine in are missing. Not sure about it charging, wiring looks like poop, brake pads are shot, the seat is trash. Hydro lever is loose and I can’t get it off the shaft. Let’s not even talk about cosmetics. I’m out of my mind but I’m gonna patch this turd up enough that it will run the tiller.

Sam, I'm sorry the 149 needs so much work, but I'm sure with your skills , it will be fixed up in no time , btw, I just had to do some work on my 149 today, only needed a new fuel line, spark plug, and coil wire.:biggrin2::beer2:

Sam,
Sounds like the 127 I had,I am sure the frame has a crack in it somewhere. You know who has the parts... |

Yikes! Sounds like you got a few wrench turns ahead of you. Sorry there's so much to do. Once you get it running, I'm sure you'll fall for it. In good shape, they are great tractors; part of me still regrets getting rid of mine :biggrin2:
|
Don't worry too much Sam, you will know that it is trustworthy and solid when you are done. The only bad part, besides the NTBR (Need To Be Repaired) list is that tiller time is ticking down for this years gardens, but you could always till for next year if you get it done too late for this season. I still think that you got a good bargain full of items on your trailer and I'm looking forward to your seeing your progress buddy!
Cub Cadet 123 |
Sorry to hear Sam but I'm sure you will have it in shape in no time!
|
Considering the condition of the Cubs around here, your 149 sounds like a gem.
I wish I could find them in such good shape! |

Hey all I'm still new here , and was hoping for some advice on my 2 plus 1 recently required 149s. Should I start a new thread? Solid tractors but each has a different engine problem. I just need one to run for the summer .
|
This 149 looks a heck of a lot better than the one I passed on last summer. I couldn't find one part on the machine that didn't need work. It wasn't even good parts.
At least, your headlights work! I have one Cub Cadet Nightmare, and that is so much fun that I seem to want another. Am I crazy? |
I should clarify, I don't just need one for the summer. I love these things, I grew up on the first two that were my grandpa's . I'd like to fix them all .
Sorry to hear the shape of your new one |
Sorry to hear, Sam. You'll fix it up though.

Sounds like it was used pretty hard. But there's a bright side.
Ah.......give me a second.......it's a IH Cub Cadet? Hang in there Sam, this 149 will be a great tractor when you get done performing your magic on it:beerchug: It'll be shining like a diamond in a goats butt:biggrin2: |
I had hoped that I could put it and the tiller to work without too much effort but now it looks more like a project. Oh well I'll fix it the way it should be and be done with it. Guess I'll get to use it next season. It's getting a bath first.:beerchug:

I had to tighten the bolts on the rear end/frame on my 147 when I bought it in '12....I checked them again 2 weeks ago and one was loose. She comes loose again it's getting lock tited.

Being an Illinois guy, I'd agree! Most of the "older" tractors here are pretty rough. That thing looks really good!!! I'd fix it, no questions asked! :beerchug: |
Looks like a keeper now!
|
The turning of the wrenches will begin tomorrow. It may live on in scenic Galax. :biggrin2:
|
That's the spirit Sam!:beerchug:

"little pig" :biggrin2:

The 149 is looking good, Sam.

Got the PTO apart today and the fender pan off, even the screws that hold the foot pads came out with no problems. The little pig is growing on me. I'm going to have to make a special set of rear end braces for it, the brake levers are in the way. No big deal. It has on broken bolt in the rear where it attaches to the frame and it's missing on of the brackets that bolt to the frame near the pump so the whole rear was rocking up and down. I've seen worse. Steering wheel is off. What's the secret to getting the forward reverse lever off, I have the set screw out? Think the PO got all the goodness out of the PTO fingers, button is gone and they ran it right into the lever. :beerchug:

Need PTO parts and help
1 Attachment(s)
Guys
I'm new to this style of PTO so I need a little help. I need the following items Cub Cadet IH-473477-R3 Button, Thrust (14 in the green circle) Cub Cadet IH-473478-R2 Lever, Throw-Out qty3 ( number 25 in the green circle) These are available but the clutch disk seems to only be sold with a complete clutch. (number 20 in the red circle) I understand that I also need a setup gage, anyone have one I can borrow? Are any of you guys doing/selling rebuilt clutch's ? I'll get the button for the lever from Jeff |
Did you check with one of the sponsers at the top?
http://ihcubcadetparts.net46.net/1_2_Products.html He sells one listed as: REBUILT Wide Frame Style, Manual Front PTO. This isn't some taken apart "cleaned up" and put back together PTO this one was rebuilt with a New Cub Cadet fiber disk, new springs, new center button and adjusted as per adjustment gauge. Comes with 6 new set screws, adjustment gauge, and instruction sheet. $130.00 *EXCHANGE, plus $13.75 shipping including insurance to anywhere in the lower 48. Core Charge $50.00 |
Sam you can get clutch disk seperate and rebuild kits sometimes come with clutch fingers. Is this for your 149? You need a wide frame gauge as they are different from NF one
|
I've been buying clutch rebuild kits--approx. $60, comes with the fiber disk, triangle springs, and the setting gauge. all the parts you might need are here:
http://ihccw.com/pto.html I have a setting gauge I can send you gratis...I've got several, just let me know. PM me with mailing address. |
you can buy just the clutch discs on ebay at a reasonable price, i have a gauge if you want (nf, not sure if the same as wf)
|
PM sent to you.
