Painted vs. unpainted carburetors..that is the question!
i'm torn between if i want to paint the carburetor, or leave it unpainted. everything else is going to be painted, maybe i shouldnt paint it, just clean it so it contrasts a little?
maybe some pictures of painted carbs and unpainted clean carburetors will help :biggrin2::biggrin2: |

I don't paint mine. To me, it's one more thing that creates problems when you go to clean and rebuild one. Choke cleaner spray takes the paint off, creating lots of little pieces of paint to get inside the carb.

My vote is don't paint.

No paint on the carb. My 0.02.

No paint for the above reasons plus I like the unpainted look, but that's just personal preference :beerchug:

I prefer the naked all natural look to the carb--it makes the cub have more eye candy appeal and a better l@@k!!:biggrin2:....and for the same reason that was already mentioned.

They were painted at the factory. Are you going for functional or original look?

Painting a carb is kinda tricky cause it wants to corrode and push the paint off.
Like galvanized eave troughs. That is what gutters were made of way back when the Cub Originals were new!. |

Don't paint, I just think it looks better.

I guess you can paint it with clear coat rustoleum sells it, and say that you painted it.

I guess it boils down to whatever blows your skirt up. I myself prefer the look of a nice cleaned up carb. :beerchug:

Just my 2 cents but as long as they work as they should I couldn't care less what they look like. :biggrin2:

I don't paint mine i just let it soak in Kerosene and the scrub it down with sos or scotch bright pads. It gives you that metal shine. Because if you go to use starter fluid to start your engine up after you've painted it it will remove the paint. So if its not painted theres nothing to mess up.
