My New To Me 169!

5 Attachment(s)
Well, it took me about 5 weeks to go get it, but I'm glad that I did. Here are some pics of my 169. It came with new decals for the hood and an extra can of Cub Cadet white spray paint. It has all of the correct and original goodies, except the tail lights, and seat. I noticed that it also has a cigarette lighter, but is missing the push button for it--does anyone know if a standard cigarette plug will fit into it? Looks like I'm going to have to take up another bad habit now--haven't smoked a cigarette since 3rd grade. It is my 2nd 169, but my first is missing the correct engine but the frame, etc is in better shape than this one so I may just grab the engine off of this one and put in the other one. Well, what do you think of the cub?

Very nice 169. And you have 2, I'd like to find just one. Even has the steering wheel insert, good job. How many are you up to now?

Thanks Alvy! That makes me up to about 19 or 20 cubs. I have 5 stored outside--hence the tarps in the background, so I am going to liquidate 2 of them soon. My first 169 had a 3 point with it and really good tiller gearbox and everything on the 169 but the engine. I got tired of looking for an engine, so I just bought a complete one. The engine purrs nicely, so I may do a transplant into the nicer 169. The only question about doing that is I don't know which one has the lower serial number. So I guess the question is, do I favor a better original paint job or a lower serial number--which is more important?:bigthink:

hears 3 169s cub cadet . me and my dad have 24 cub cadets

IACubCadet 03-16-2014 05:38 PM

Nice find :beerchug: I would keep both but fix the nicer one. I had four 169's at one time. I ended up parting out the worst one due to some PO frame work that was not needed. Like other guy's have said, maybe you will find a 1650 motor and can convert it back over to a SG and such, and have two! I plan on restoring both of mine, leaving one manual lift and one hydro lift. :beerchug: Again, nice find!

JLM78 03-16-2014 05:42 PM

Did that 169 come from Elkhart ?

PaulS 03-16-2014 05:43 PM

Nice find on the 169 and remember they do not make them anymore.

Yes, it did. I had a very long drive yesterday and my trailer didn't like the winding narrow drive back to his place, but I made it home and stopped at one of my favorite restaurants on the way back-Arnold's!:beerchug:

JLM78, what do you mean stock implement handle? What does it look like?

darkminion (Lew) the seat is not too bad. Had about 2 1/2 " repair tape on the upper RHS. That is all that I noticed today while unloading it, but I didn't spend too much time with it since it is 24* out with 30+ mph winds.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. I'm stoked (there's an '80's term) about getting it. The weather or health problems from seller & me has kept me from getting it for several weeks. I think he kept the undercarriage off of it, but I have several of them so no big deal. It does need the extra part for the front pto clutch and the hour meter looks to be shot, so I may need to buy a part or two. I'm glad that it is in my collection and it certainly seems a lot more powerful than my 149.

Cool, thanks! Ok, now I know what you mean by implement handle. I guess I thought that all 169's came out with the hydraulic lift. That would explain the new bolts for the hydraulic cylinder that are in the side of the frame.

Everyone's getting 169's! Holy cow! I just got one from IACubCadet. :beerchug:

some came with out Hydraulics And was dealer installed . they had trouble getting the hydraulic Valves when they built them

red56turbo 03-16-2014 10:08 PM

Nice find on the 169! They ran out of hydraulic valves during assembly due to the number of 149's being built as well. They came with ported hydros and could be dealer or field retrofitted.

That's a really nice addition to the collection. I still have seller's remorse for selling mine...and that was over 5 years ago.

ACecil 03-16-2014 11:44 PM

Congrats on the 169!

I hear ya on seller's remorse. I had two. Sold one to a gentleman in Central Iowa and my second, nicer one went to a good home in Central Illinois. I sure like my smokers though............
