I'm going to clean it up and find a motor for it and use it for plowing I'm not going to restore it yet i will though just not now. |

Got the engine pulled out of it. |
When i bought my 72 cub the wiring was chewed threw so yesterday i pulled all the wiring out. Cut 2 of my knuckles while doing it. And started scraping of dirt. So i can start measuring the frame to see what engines will fit in it.
|
7,8,10, and 12 HP's will fit.
|
Will a K301 fit?
|
Ummm well, that's a 12 hp so yes.
|
Hmm they look to big to fit. So ive got to keep my eyes open for one cheap.
|
The motor i took out was a 7 hp
|
Whats wrong with the engine that was in it?
|
My 72 has a k301 in it, fits perfect. Definitely a setup I'm happy with.

You'll want to use the bigger tank that was used on the 12hp Cubs, so no real loss there. I wish I could find a 72 for $50! Nice score!
|
Yea I was just going to get a plastic tank so i dont have to worry about rust.

Besides..... there isn't a plastic tank that is a direct fit for the 72. While I'm on the subject, you mentioned in one of you vids that you wanted to put a motor like the one in your 1250 into the 72. That IS NOT a direct fit. There are major differences in the wiring and set up of those two engines. If you want a 12 hp, find one out any series older than a QL. Less work that way. |
[QUOTE=J-Mech;249910]You don't have to worry about rust with a steel tank...... As long as you don't put water in it. [QUOTE]
Unless it is a steam engine.:biggrin2: |
Well the tank is beyond repair so if im going to replace it im going to get a plastic one there cheaper.
|
A QL one would work.Just have to get the straps included.
|
I meant use a steel tank from a 122, 123, etc. If this was my project, I'd source a complete K301, out of a Cub 122, 123, 124, 125, etc. (NF 12hp), from a puller project, along with the gas tank. Your basically building a 124, forward of the tower, so use what IH used and make it easy on yourself. A buddy has a 71 with a K301, and it looks factory. If you don't care, and want to use a plastic tank, I'd cut on the frame, and drop a M12 in there. Heck, a M12, K361 cam and rod, #30 carb, and you'll have a beast!

I think a steel tank would be fine as well. Never had a problem with the ones dad and I used.... |

Great deal on the cub--cheaper than scrap price! If you are that far along and not planning a full restoration, then I'd at least shoot a can of rattle can paint on it. That cub will roar once again. Looking forward to your progress.
Cub Cadet 123 |
Unless you are doing it just for fun..... that carb is toast. Not worth trying to save. I've been a mechanic for over 15yrs, and I saved one like it recently. Had more in it than the cost of a new one! Find a good used. It won't work on anything else you have anyway. It's too small for anything other than the 7hp. Even if you do want to save it, you need to soak it in carb cleaner. Kerosene won't take do anything other than maybe free it up. All the rust that is falling out of it will have the internal passages plugged.
You can get new sediment bowls at NAPA. They are about $25. |
Im doing it for fun. im not going to put a lot of time into it. if it doesnt work then ill replace it.
