scgtguy 02-15-2014 12:45 PM

Quake !

We did ... about 35 miles from my home outside a small town called Edgefield , a 4.1 .... rumbled for about 5 seconds...reports said folks in Atlanta and Charlotte felt it also.

Strange feeling , my first quake

I'm not in the south, but have 5" plus half " of ice on top for two weeks, nothings melted and we are supposed to warm up this week with rain. I'm leary of one roof and might shovel it today.BTDT It gets to be like an olympic ski jump after cleaning some off. Not sure i'm up for this might call a neighbor. As for that quake in the south, that's what happens when you put heavy, wet snow in a place that's not used to it. Mike:biggrin2:

Huh, that's what it was....It happened when I was huggy bear, kissy face with my sweetheart and I felt the earth move under my feet--thought she did it as my Valentine's Day gift.:bigthink: Won't she be surprised that it wasn't her.:biggrin2:

I didn't feel the NC/SC quake, but I can tell you what a 5.9 feels like. We live about 15 miles from the epicenter of the Louisa, VA earthquake that shook the entire eastern seaboard a couple years ago. We lucked out with only some minor ceiling-to-wall sheet rock seams cracking upstairs. Our neighbors had to replace an entire wall of their walkout basement--the completely buried front wall. Talk about a mess. Many chimneys down around here. We lost one piece of china that rattled out of the china cabinet. Wife's doll collection, many of which were standing on shelves and cabinets, were unfazed. That's the third quake since we've been in this house--one about 1990, another in 2003 or 2004, and then this one (plus a bunch of aftershocks from the big one). The first couple were about 4.0 to 4.3.
