Cub cadet 169 pickup

Im about 45 minutes from taking a mini hour and a half road trip to go pick up a cub cadet 169. I have been searching for one forever and I finally found one...PO is a big cub cadet guy, he knows his stuff and he told me he it's all unmolested, untouched and all original. Which I'm hoping is true, that way I don't have to pay $410 for a muffler.:biggrin2:

I'll try to get some photos of it after we dig it out of the drifts and when I get her home!

cubcadet 02-09-2014 12:38 PM

Congrats on the 169. Looking forward to pics.:beerchug:

Just got back with it. Was buried behind scrap metal frozen to the ground, under two feet of snow. It took almost an hour to dig it out. But it's got all the rare parts!!! I'm super thrilled. It's dark out now, but in the morning I'll grab pics when I unload it.

Does it have hydro lift?

Cubcrazy 02-09-2014 06:22 PM

Cool! Looking forward to your pics!

Shaner 02-09-2014 06:27 PM

Yes it has hydro lift. Needs some work, driveshaft is out of it. I'm missing the coupler to the hydro pump but those are fairly easy to find. Fenders are not in the best shape so those will get replaced. Has the original rear tires and one original front tire too which I thought was cool. Can't wait to get some work done on it and fire up that 16hp beast

I agree. Save them all. I wish my wife felt the same way. She doesn't say anything, just shakes her head.

Here are some pics (hopefully)...I put a battery in it and she cranked over which is a good sign. I'm not gonna try to start it until after I yank the motor, clean out all possible and probable mouse houses....new gaskets, carb rebuild, new points, condenser, coil, wire, and plug. When it gets warmer I'll get to it. Too cold for fingers to work right now!

gsomersjr 02-10-2014 02:54 PM

Cleaning it up is a good idea but I'd maybe think about getting it started before putting a lot of work into the engine. It might not need the work done or, worst case, the motor is in bad shape and you have to undo all your work to fix the problem. Just a thought. I'm certainly no expert.

cubcadet 02-10-2014 02:54 PM

Nice find on the 169, looks good.:beerchug:

Shaner 02-10-2014 02:58 PM

i was told by the guy the motor was fine, which i believe him because hes been very credible for everything he told me about my previous purchase from him. hour meter only shows 606 hours and it does work. turned the key on and it was moving slowly!

JLM78 02-10-2014 03:51 PM

looks good I would put new oil And gas And give a try

Cubcrazy 02-10-2014 06:12 PM

Congrats on the 169! It looks good! It being in snow preserved it!:beerchug:

ACecil 02-10-2014 10:04 PM

169

I have never eyeballed a 169. Would love to see one, you are a lucky owner. I watch in yards and around houses best I can when we go a little out of the area. Never see one, but my wife keeps telling me you're gonna kill us both if you don't watch where you're going. Many times we have turned around and backtracked a little to see what was out there in a glance.

Well I made progress on the 169...I got the motor go fire which means I can now tear it down. The fenders and foot rests are garbage so those are getting scrapped. The drain plug on the engine was rounded off so a pipe wrench was used to drain the sludge out...literally sludge. Maybe a few drops of oil. Glad I only got it to pop a few times off carb cleaner. Lol

I'm going to be ordering a complete gasket kit for this motor, as well as a new wire harness, coil, points and condenser then I can clean it up for paint. Oh yea, the original big muffler is still in good shape and its QUIET!!!

cubcadet 02-16-2014 06:31 PM

Good work on the 169. Glad it will run.:beer2:

Excellent! Glad your muffler is in good shape and quiet--that should save you about, uh $410 or so....:biggrin2: I'll be watching for future posts of your progress on it!

You tried to start a motor without seeing if it had oil in it? I didn't realize getting one to run was required to tear it down..... :bigthink:

If the pan had sludge in it better plan on more than just a gasket kit.......

Shaner 02-16-2014 09:21 PM

It had oil in it, dipstick was just a tad under the full line. The sludge was at the bottom of the pan, once I cleared it out the oil flowed right out but I'm still going to open it up and clean it up.

Only reason I want to open it up is to remove the balance gears before they do it themselves...this block is HARD to find.

I'm not as stupid as you may think! Lol:BangPC:
