Cub 1650 help!!
I replaced the carb on my 1650, it ran great, then the next morning found that it was leaking fuel. I heard that aftermarket carbs, had issues with the float needle, so I replaced it with the old one, and it solved the problem. I went to make minor adjustments at idle and full throttle and now it will not run at full throttle. It idles fine, but starts to bog down and run terrible as you increase the throttle. I swapped carbs and it does it with both. I checked the timing using an ohmmeter and it is fine. I heard someone mention that a bad condenser might be the cause? Any thoughts?? Please help.

First off, did you flush the tank? You should probably put the new needle and seat back in, make sure they are clean, and set the float height. There probably wasn't anything wrong with the new, just either had dirt stuck in the needle, or the float wasn't adjusted right.

Thanks, I will flush the tank tonight, I but to new seat and needle back in the new carb and have the same problem with the throttle. I went back to the old carb last night and had the same problem, so it cant be the carb can it? I'm at a total loss. Im going to replace the condenser tonight and see what that does?

Sounds to me like you have a restriction somewhere from the gas tank to the carb. I've had screens clogged in the tank outlet, on/off gas valve off the tank clogged and carb inlet barb clogged. Check that you have free flow of gas to the carb by pulling the fuel line to it.

Just a last resort try, but you could pull the float bowl while it's on the tractor. Try turning on the gas and manually actuating the float to see if it is flowing free, and then completely shutting off at a level float. When I hear gas coming out the intake, that usually is a bad float setting/needle, or the wrong jets. :TwoCents: |

Jetting has nothing to do with gas overflowing the bowl. :bash2: |

I agree, but i am a little unclear as to exactly where the gas is coming out. I'm not positive, but if the jet were too large, couldn't it spit back and run extremely rich, as if the choke were on? It sounds like a float issue though. |

Ok, not sure if your 1650's carb is set up the same way, but on my k301's the fuel going into the carb has to pass through a 90-degree bend. This spot likes to catch pieces of gunk and allow the engine to run, but just barely. It throws you off track, because the carb can look spotless when opened up. If your carb has that 90-degree inlet, check there. Who knows what you'll find! I found pieces of a fuel bowl gasket and a deteriorating gas cap (separate occasions.) good luck!

The leaking fuel bowel has been dealt with, the float needle was sticking. The issue I'm still having is that it idles fine but runs rough real rough as you throttle up and at full throttle. I wasn't able to work on it last night but will flush the tank and check the inlet 90 tonight depending on what time I get back from the work xmas party.:beerchug:

fwiw. I was adjusting my 1450 carb as it wouldn't do anything more than idle. Long story short and 4 hours later. My condensor wire had broken and at an idle was making contact but above idle the vibration was causing intermittent contact. changed the condenser hidden behind the coil and it runs great.
