Cub Cadet 149, rough going into gear
 

I have a 1972 cub 149 that has run flawlessly for 40 years lol. Lately when going into forward it seems to go in "hard". it doesn't slip and once moving it is smooth as silk. Is that a sign its going bad or some adjustment?

When was the last time you changed the oil and filter on the trans?

Trunnion getting worn?

4 years but only 40-50 hours. I guess that's a place to start. Maybe some water contamination?

Have a look at the trunion before dumping the fluid overboard.

Help an optometrist out. What's a trunnion? Lol

It is where the speed forward/reverse speed control goes into your hydro unit..

Cub has improved it on the new tractors now you just throw the whole thing away after 2 years and buy a new one.:biggrin2:

I agree that the trunion could very well contribute to the rough shifting or your hydro.

I do have a question. Why is the transmission mounted to the yellow from painted green? :bigthink:

Someone had a rattle can of green paint sitting around I guess..

I'll check it out this weekend but I'm 90% sure that will be the problem. It "creeps" even when starting it and you almost need to be in reverse a little bit to get it to stay still after starting it
