Got started tinkering on my O.
As you remember, I put my O on my back porch to have a place to work on it this winter. I put the heat shrink clear plastic on the outside of the screens last weekend to create a green house effect on the porch. Boy, it does almost too good. Can be in the thirties outside and eighty on the porch. I keep the back door, leading inside the house, and it heats my whole house toasty.
Here is it awaiting: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ps3aa840ab.jpg And now look at it: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ps34530171.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ps4f4d3ec3.jpg I rebuilt the carb and S/G already. No problems at all so far as everything seems to be in good nick. I had soaked the bolts in penetrating oil earlier so they all are coming out easy. I will have to pace myself or I will be finished it too soon. Question. Is the original the same width as my 122/124 ? If so I guess I can work on them after this one. Thanks for looking. John PS... That is a genuine Persian Oriental Carpet it is sitting on. They are as tough as Cubs. |
Good job, John! Please keep the updates coming. :beerchug:
|
I was going to ask you about that fancy carpet! At least it will protect any parts you drop!
|
good work:beer2:
|
Careful, if that carpet is Persian, then it might be a flying carpet and you are likely to lose your O! Then you would step onto your porch and say, "O-my!!!" :biggrin2:
Looks good so far. Get it done ASAP and let it go out in the snow and play....then you can start on another cub! Cub Cadet 123 |
The tower came off real easy as with the steering wheel.
This is the first time anything major has been done to this O. I am amazed that there is no rust anywhere on the frame and tower. It is nice not finding any surprises left by a PO. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psfc1f82bd.jpg |
Very nice, looks like you have a good one to restore. :beerchug:
|
Looks like it is coming along, are you going to paint it in there too?
|
No, I will take it to a neighbor who has a down draft booth and dryer. I don't want paint fumes all over. I will use his bead blaster as well.
|
Lookin' good man! Your making quick work of the dis-assembly!! :beerchug:

That's amazing John that its coming apart so easily, looks almost too decent to restore already but great job. What paint are you going to have him use? Great idea with the green house deal, looks good
|
i bet it is real cold when you are swimming ,or on the beach
|
I like your work area. The fact it's heated is a giant plus. :biggrin2: Good looking work space and great looking O.

I'm wondering when someone is going to respond about that picture............Bueller?

Sorry. It was a response to this post. Might be an inside reference but I just don't know.

My next problem will be how to work on the underside. Thinking of taking off steering gear and lift arm and turning the whole thing over, still on it's wheels. I've had the shifter off to look inside. I guess I will have to do the best to drain the tranny first to be able to have the shifter off to clear being upside down.

It made me laugh pretty hard while it lasted. Good stuff

OK..
Took time after coffee this morning to remove more stuff. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ps4b63f5e5.jpg Trouble is this pile is getting bigger. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psc0087a0e.jpg Found a huge disaster this morning. one of the lock washers was broke and will have to be replaced. :biggrin2: Every nut and bolt is in perfect condition and will be reused. Not a single one didn't come out like it should have from the factory. I am being sure to put the nut/bolts/washers with the component it came with. A lot of photos to remember by if I get confused. |
First my clutch and brake don't work then my steering goes out!

It's coming apart, that's a good thing:beerchug:
Looking good John. |
You're making quick work of the O John. Keep up the good work.
|
The easy work is now done. The dirty hard work commences. I think I will do one part at a time. I really don't think I will need to replace much unless something comes up when I am closely checking each the larger components and restoring them. The tires will need replacing. I think the fronts are the original. I might be wrong. Will get all the components ready for paint and will do that all at once. reassembly will just be the reverse of what I just did.
|
You've been busy! Thanks for the update and pics.

looking good, any cracks in the frame? mine had some big ones.
|
There is no damage whatsoever. Most of the paint is there and I said, only one lock washer will have to be replaced. Amazing. I will be checking the clutch bearings for wear as it seems that it is a little sloppy.
