Restoring a '71 106
Hey guys,
I was given an old 106 when I was in school and used it to mow the lawn the entire time I was in high school. After school I went into the air force and my dad never used my cub to cut the grass because he is a john deere guy so my tractor sat for about 5 years. I recently got out of the service and returned to school but I wanted a project so I decided to restore my trusty old cub. Ive got it torn down and ready to be cleaned and repainted but the site I was going to be buying all the gaskets and new shear pins had a fire at their store and is offline until further notice. :bash2: Do any of you know of good places to buy everything I will need? I appreciate any help y'all can give me. |
thank you for your service and thanks for helping out that old cub

:Welcome2: and thanks for your service:beerchug:
You can also get the gaskets and many other parts from your local Cub Cadet dealer. Pictures are a plus around here:bigthink: |
Air Force is the way to go. I joined back in 69 and one of my twin sons did the same, the other went Navy. I think it really helps when you are young.
Thanks for your service also. :American Flag 1: |
I noticed the same thing on that website last night. I hope they get everything back together soon. Thank you for your service and be sure to post pictures

That 106 will be nice when done! There is a wealth of information, and a friendly group of enthusiast. I have seen a lot of nice examples of repairing and painting these garden tractors, hope to see the 106 as well!
The AF sounds like a good experience. I know of a few people who are part of. My co-workers son just went this past August, started out a 2 star. The other was my girlfriend, who joined and never looked back, :biggrin2: edit: Looks good! Some nice sealed paint even yet. Paint prep don't look too hard! Thanks for sharing. :American Flag 1: |
You are coming along!
I like the liquid persuasion on the bench too!:beerchug: |
Whats maintenance without beer?:beerchug:

You are right into the tear down on the 106. Looking forward to pictures of it coming back together. My son has ours and I am considering bringing it home for a engine overhaul. These tractors will do a lot of work.
Thanks for your service in the Air Force too! Regards, Chris |

I'm going to try to avoid tearing into the engine to much. It runs like a champ right now, or at least it did before I yanked the engine out. Just some preventative stuff, replacing parts that look like crap, painting the covers, and replacing the muffler I may or may not have snapped off when I leaned on it by accident after a few bottles of encouragement.:beerchug:

No better way to spend your spare time, true enjoyment.Thank you for your service and a thanks to all of those before and after.I salute you all.:Salute:

Well the restore is coming along slowly but surely. I am at the point where I am looking for some new front rubber. Anyone got a brand they like that wont cost me a fortune? And where can I find them?
|
Front tires.
http://www.millertire.com/products/l...b-front-4-ply/ Here are the same tires on my tractor. http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...psf7e60428.jpg |
Another vote for M.E. Miller from a satisfied customer.

Thanks guys I just ordered two of them, hopefully they get here so I can get them installed this weekend.

Ok not to :beatdeadhorse: but I need some more info. I went through my manual that I have looking for what type of fluid my rear end and creeper need and all I got was "fill to proper level with specified lubricant" I assume that the proper lubricant is HyTrans fluid? Is this correct? and if so can I use the fluid from tractor supply or should I go to Case and get their fluid?
