1782 followed me home

Found this on C-list, had to drive a whole 37.5 miles one way to get it. Seems to run very well. Plastic is in decent condition. Elec shut off doesn't work, it has a pull cord on it. Deck is super quite. Not sure if I'm gonna keep it or not just yet. Has a cheap set of AG's on the back. More tomorrow after I unload it. :beerchug:

Yep it's a smoker. :biggrin2:

darkminion_17 10-29-2013 09:44 PM

Sometimes the best ones are found close to home.

Nice score.

Sam Mac 10-29-2013 09:49 PM

Forgot to mention that it only has 571 hours on it, has been dealer serviced (not that I'm impressed with that) and I got the books with it. Don't know how Cub123 missed this one, it was almost in his back yard. :beerchug:

IliketheRedcubs 10-29-2013 09:51 PM

Nice going Sam! Looks pretty nice!:beerchug:

cub123 10-29-2013 10:48 PM

Nice score Sam! It's about time you got a 1782:biggrin2: I can't imagine how I missed it, just as well though, I'm running out of room and need the cash for a bigger shop:beer2: It looks like a real clean diesel, congrats:beerchug:

ACecil 10-29-2013 11:23 PM

Awesome score, Sam!

Oak 10-29-2013 11:45 PM

Sam, nice find on that super cyclops smoker. Ya gonna keep this one?

J-Mech 10-29-2013 11:53 PM

"Super" nice score!!! Congrats Sam! (I'd keep it!) :beerchug:

jimbob200521 10-30-2013 12:02 AM

Gah, how do you always find these and I can't seem to find one locally for the life of me!!! :bash2:

Nice score :beerchug:

Tunames 10-30-2013 12:12 AM

Nice! Wish they had those in Kansas!

Cubcrazy 10-30-2013 07:17 AM

Todd

You already know the answer to that. It's the only diesel that I would keep, I just like the looks of the Cyclops tractors. If it stays it will get the same treatment as the 2182, gauges, wider rear wheels and a set of loaded Tru-Powers and a rear-end brace. Just trying to come up with a reason why I need it.

Ben

This one was in Draper, 1/2 a mile off exit 86 on I81. Think it was just about the shortest road trip I've ever made for a Cub.

cubcadet 10-30-2013 08:37 AM

nice find on the smoker sam:beerchug:

No 3pt or rear PTO. All this one ever did was cut grass. It's had an easy life and has been garage kept. :beerchug:

red56turbo 10-30-2013 11:37 AM

Sam,
Congrats on the smoker. I didn't know the 1782's had electric shutoffs. Mine has a pull cable to shut it off. Kinda like a choke cable. Mine's a early, first year production, though. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Sam Mac 10-30-2013 11:55 AM

Well I did a dumb thing, I forgot to pull the key out of the ignition switch and it is MIA. Got it jumpered so I could get it off the trailer but now it's off to the Kubota dealer for a new set of keys. Cub price $21.61 Kubota price $6.60 gotta love Cub's markup. :beatdeadhorse:

Got the keys and cleaned it up a bit.

ACecil 10-30-2013 02:58 PM

That smoker is looking good, Sam! Actually, I've been thinking of selling my super and try to find a smoker! :beerchug:

johncub7172 10-30-2013 02:58 PM

Nice Super, Sam!

Cubcrazy 10-30-2013 03:05 PM

The D cleaned up good Sam!

Sam Mac 10-30-2013 03:05 PM

Thanks Allen

Found a crack in the grill, already have a new one on the way. Needs a few little things but nothing major for a change. Just mowed with it SWEET grass killer. Now I don't know what Super I like better, the 2182 or the 1782. Yeah I know tough to have that kind of problem. LMAO :beerchug:

Any of you guys ever heard of Nanking AG tires? That's what it has on the back and they look small compared to the Tru-Powers on my 2182. Both are 26X12X12's

esarvey 10-30-2013 06:31 PM

smoker

:BB&YS: Put a plow on it ,make some smoke !!!!:beerchug:

Earl

I don't want to beat it up with a plow. This one is too nice to get all covered in mud. It's like me old and retired. I may take it out once in a while and cut grass with it but only if the grass is nice and dry and the sun is shining. If I want to turn dirt I'll use my 121 that I just set up with the plow. Oh by the way I set it up like both you and Vince told me to and it works sweet.

J-Mech 10-30-2013 06:55 PM

Now that you have mowed with it, how does it compare on power to your 3cyl gas? :bigthink: Always wanted to know how the two 3 cylinders were in comparison.

ken6x6 10-30-2013 08:02 PM

nice find Sam, it should have a good life being in your hands.

Darrell 10-30-2013 08:44 PM

Sam , I have a set of those tires and they are smaller in size. All of the import tire sizes run smaller compared to Carlisle tires .

John

Honestly I can't tell any difference between the Diesel and the Gaser as far as power. The Gas may have a bit of an edge. 21 HP VS 17HP yeah I know all about the torque deal but let's get real when you pull both up to the governor they both have plenty to get the job done even with a 60" Haban. I think the big deal may be in fuel consumption. Just my 2 cents but the 2182 is a tough act to follow. If I had to choose between the two I’d take the 2182. It also doesn’t make nasty smelling smoke. :beerchug:

They gotta go, they just look like crap. It will get some real sneakers like my 2182 has and a set of 10.5" wide rims. :beerchug:

I like nasty smoke! If you decide to part with it, put me on the list! I dont have a problem driving 5 hours :bigthink:

Sam Mac 10-31-2013 09:15 AM

I'll let you guys know what I'm going to do with it. For now it's in storage till I get some of the other projects done. I need to get the deck for the 2182 sandblasted and painted and I have a Vanguard that I want to put back together before I forget what goes where. That said not much will be going on for a while. I'll probably start a new thread on it when I get started on it. :beerchug:

I'm not going to say it isn't nasty smelling but when i use the diesel vs gas i don't stink when i go in the house... even a 2182 stank me up like exhaust. Weird thing is i kinda like the odd nasty diesel smell lol... and for the record the wife has notice the smell difference or lack there of lol!

Good looking machine congrats sam!

105_Tom 11-13-2013 09:41 PM

Very. Nice. Smoker. Glad it made it into your hands, Sam. We'll be watching for updates.

I probably won't be doing much on it till spring. Used it last week to mow a little just to check it out. It's now sitting on the lift with the plastic removed. The grill was broken. Got a new one for it sitting in the box. One odd thing is that at some point it had an axle tube replaced on the rear, the replacement is different than any I have ever seen. No big deal since I will be pulling the rear out anyway to drill the case, replace the axle seals and install a torque arm brace. I may pull the engine, repack the steering CV joint, add gauges etc. Here are pics of the axle tubes. The black one is what it should have. Got a replacement for it sitting on the bench. :biggrin2:

Frank1541 11-14-2013 05:32 PM

Looks like it might be off a 2185. I saw rear end assembly today.

Sam, I think those are the correct replacement ones from Cub. The PO spent big bucks and replaced both of mine on my 2182.

Sam Mac 11-14-2013 07:44 PM

Well I got a good set from one of our members so when I pull the rear it will get the original style. No matter they are NLA from Cub AKA MTD. I'll clean up the odd ball one and save it, if one of you guys needs it let me know. :beerchug:

I gotta wonder what you need to do to bust a tube?

I don't know :bigthink: I bet that wouldn't have happened with your braces on there! :beerchug:

Sam Mac 11-20-2013 03:51 PM

Gave the smoker a bath today with my juiced up pressure washer. Nice and clean and up on the lift. Now I can get started pulling the rear out of it to swap the odd ball tube, replace the axle seals and put a set of Xtreme's SGT braces on it. The front mounts are in good condition on this one and I want to keep it that way. All in all I don't see any serious issues for a change looks like an easy one. Put the hood on the new grill also. I'll get some pics for you guys later. :beerchug:
