Difference between a 149 and a 1450
I understand all of the attachements (deck, blower, etc.) are interchangeable. What else is different between the 2?
Pros and Cons? |
149 has a different hydraulic lift linkage, mechanical PTO, starter/generator, solid-mounted engine, and a muffler that discharges out the side. 1450 has an electric PTO bendix drive starter and stator charging system, ISO-mounted engine, and a larger muffler and shroud that discharges out the front. The air filter, carb and choke linkage, coil mounting, etc. are also different between the two. The 149 has a left-hand hydro control, and the 1450 has a gated control on the right hand. I'm probably forgetting a few things...they're different in many ways.

The reason I am asking is because I am trying to decide if it's worth getting rid of my 1450 with the blown engine for a 149 with a rebuilt engine.
|
I would..just my 2 cents

get the 149! those 1450's are quiet lines, those ISO mounts on the motor tend to go bad and cause all sorts of vibration and i believe can damage the oil pan after a while, also i loke the looks of the 149 a lot better, they look meaner, the QL's look odd IMHO, plus any running cub is worth more than a dead one unless its in a lot worse shape and the non running one is like a 982 or something lol your choice but i would go for the 149!
|
If it's an even trade I'd go for the 149 in a heartbeat. You're looking at downtime and money with the blown engine and "seat time" with the 149. If you can get the 149 and keep the 1450 then that would be something to consider. Having 2 or 50 is better than having one or 49. Also, does the 1450 have hydraulic lift? The 149 does for sure or it's suppose to. I have both and to me they're both fine tractors.

i like my 129 and 169 over my 1650
|
I would have to give up my 1450 plus $400 for the 149. Still worth it? Keep in mind I am right now looking at $400 for a 'new to me' engine.
|
I don't think you'd be happy with that deal. I see 149s on cl all of the time for around $400. You'd be giving the 1450 away. I bet if you tried you could sell the 1450 for a couple hundred which means you'd be paying $600 for the 149. You might be better off trying to find a good used engine and swap them out.
A millionaire once told me "when in doubt, do nothing". It did nothing for my fortune but I think it's good advice a lot of the time. Good luck with what you decide....Wayne |
1450 plus $100-$200 wouldnt be a horible deal... but not $400!!!

I have had both a 1450 (which was my first Cub), and a 149 at the same time, but It wasnt long before the 1450 was sold. I personally love the 149 compaired to the 1450. But thats just me. The 2 major things i love about it are the left hand hydro control and the starter/generator. Again just my :TwoCents: 1450 was a fine tractor i ran it for several years.

Thanks everyone for the input. I really appreciate it

I'm odd man out here. I prefer the 1450 over the 149. O have had seat time on both, and there is nothing wrong with the 149 at all, I just prefer the QL series. It is true that the ISO mounts give trouble, but once fixed, replaced etc, and if you want add the engine cradle upgrade there should be no need for anything else for another 20-30 years. The reduced engine vibration on the QL series is important to me, I also like the looks of the QL series better. Aesthetics aside, as noted above I do prefer the less vibration, both tractors are fine machines. I guess one has just as many downfalls as the other when parts get worn.
My son has a really nice 149, and he wouldn't trade it for anything, so I can see where the opinions on "get the 149" come from. |
I think I am going to pull the trigger and trade for the 149. I negotiated with the guy a little bit and got delivery plus i got to keep some parts off of my tractor like my seat and my headlight assembly (since his 149) doesn't have it.
Here are some pics of mine: http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i2...s/IMG00197.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i2...s/IMG00198.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i2...s/IMG00199.jpg During the engine rebuild he put in a new crank, new rod, ground the crank, and the valves. Here are some pics of the 149. It has the wrong hood, but that can be fixed with paint and decals. http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i2...s/IMG_7507.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i2...s/IMG_7508.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i2...s/IMG_7510.jpg Anything else I am missing? |
Are you keeping your wheel weights? I'm pretty sure your going to wish you had. Makes a big difference in your traction.
Chris |
are you giving him the thrower too!
|
Sorry...Should have been more specific.
Keeping the wheel weights, chains, blower, mower deck, battery and stuff I mentioned above. I am getting a plain 149 from him, just like in the photos, except he will keep the blade. |
Good move on your part! I think you will be a happy camper if the tractor your getting is in the shape the seller claims.
Good luck, Chris |
So, are the frames and tranny the same?
|
Tranny yes, frame, not quite. The area where the engine mounts is different.
