Newbie with some Cubs

Hi,

I just purchased a Cub Cadet 1650. It doesn't run... yet ;). I've rebuilt a 127 and have an original 102 with some patina. Hopefully I will get some pics up soon. Just saying hi and thanks for letting me join.

well i have attained spark with the 1650. carb is reeeallly far gone as it was all black inside with old gas and the needles are stuck. let them sit overnight in a bucket of some simple green then went thru and stuck a wire thru all the orifices and then sprayed it heavily with som carb cleaner and then with compressed air. Didnt get very far as the carb still doesnt work. they guy i got the cub from tho was nice enough to buy me another #30 carter of ebay which was really unexpected and i am quite grateful for. anyways i got her to fire a few times. needs a few odds and ends such as just short of everything ;) the parts list so far is a new coil, condenser, plug, plug wire, points, key switch, lower grill, new front tires and front wheel bearings, new front axle, and a new seat. also i made a little panel that has a couple of switches on it for bench testing battery ignition engines. just need to add a solinoid and a battery to it and make a box for it. anyways here is some pics for you guys.

You're right that is some serious varnish in that carb.

nikster 08-30-2013 06:01 AM

That's about the nastiest, ugly looking carb I've ever seen!

NIK,

got her driving and running good last night during a massive thunder storm. lightning and thunder, rain pouring from the sky. perfect night to bring the dead back to life ;) :biggrin2: all the hydraulics work just really need a key switch and she doesnt charge the battery when running. i know on the NF tractors they have starter gens and a V/R but im new to the newer stuff :p anyone have an idea as to where to start?

ACecil 09-02-2013 05:57 PM

Glad you got it running good!

took some tins off and cleaned them up and painted them.

malchren 09-03-2013 11:00 PM

also ordered up some parts, new seat, key switch... etc, etc. hopefully i can pull the engine soon and power wash her and get to sanding.

Powerwash

That's a four letter word around cub cadets. You will say a lot of them when it don't start. DO NOT POWERWASH THE ENGINE!!!!!

malchren 09-03-2013 11:27 PM

Nooooo i meant the frame. Im just going to spray some simple green on the engine and use a old tooth brush or rag to clean it up. I presume the trans and frame is ok to power wash yes?

malchren 09-03-2013 11:32 PM

For now i plan on just painting the engine tins and muffler. Eventually once i get to rebuilding the engine i will pay the machine shop to thoroughly clean the block the. I will mask and paint that. But seeing as in a few days the head will be off i shall inspect the bore and piston for wear and go from there. Might rebuild it this winter if i have time

That sounds great. I felt the hair on my neck raise up when you said powerwash. I learned the hard way on a motorcycle.
