Black Jack # 2
3 Attachment(s)
This will end up being Black Jack # 2. Picked it up from DaDuke AKA Earl Sarvey. It passed my test, it runs and made it onto the trailer under it's own power LMAO.
I need to put something together for one of my daughters to mow grass so here we go again. It will be a new thread in the custom section. Probably a copy of Black Jack # 1 or at least pretty close. May just give her #1 and do this one for myself since #1 turned out so good. Thinking about just putting the mower form this one onto #1. For those of you that don't know Earl he is one very cool guy, pic of us together, he is the good looking one on the right. LMAO |
!
Nice pickup Sam!:beerchug:

Every time I see "black jack" I picture you driving it around and the theme song to "Knight Rider" playing in the background. Lol! I'm ready to watch you finish another project as mine wait for me to have time for them!
|
Good luck with your project Sam.

Nice find, Sam! Earl is a great guy!

Black Jack # 2
I thought that 1641 other day just needed a good carb cleaning and tune up but it turns out that someone has been inside this critter that should not have been allowed to use tools. So far 2 bent push rods and a stuck exhaust valve. Also the something is wrong with the gov. Since it has 700 hours on it I decided to go for a new engine because it will be too far away for me to baby sit. Engine will be out tomorrow and I'll see if it's worth fixing. Gotta pull the rear and re-seal that and put a rear end brace on it. Then I'll copy what I did on the Ugly Duck as far as the hood goes. I kinda like the black look but may just go yellow and white on this one, will see how it goes.:beerchug:

What a total disgusting mess. Spent most of the day cleaning this pig pen. I can't believe that anyone would let a tractor get this nasty. A couple of before and after pics for you guys. Oh and a pic of the starter gear and push rods. Who ever worked on the rear end liked silicone, if one tube is good two must be better. Can't wait till I open the rear up.
|
How do you bend push rods like that? or Is that in interference engine? (piston will hit valves)?
|
Are you sure it's 700 hrs on the original clock , it looks like it may be the 8th or 9 th clock by the layers of muck! Lol have fun!:bigthink:

Forgot to show you guys the way the PO had the steering column connected gotta love the wire in place of the socket head bolt, seriously? As I said before some people should not be allowed to use tools.
|
The way some people "maintain" equipment is absurd. We see stuff like that all the time...... and they wonder why it broke, failed, rusted out, how did water get in the fuel tank? .......... :bash2: Then we just :biggrin2: and fix it!! :beerchug:
|
I find it amazing that the fan is still intact with all the other chaos that tractor has encountered!!
Pull the seat pan off and you say WTF over!! lol |
Looks like that cub had a rough life!
|
Looks like it has been used and abused Sam!
You will get it in top form though!:beerchug: |
By Golly Ve Gonna Make Her Just a Like a Nu. Or at least as good as old. LMAO:beerchug:

The $6,000,000 machine able to cut grass in a single bound, strong enough to make a drive thru of any shop or breeze way ! & sam has it all; the knowledge, the$$,the ability & the addiction to make it better then new !.............. Sorry Sam i just had to!:Announce:

Just a little fun & a slip back in time to a corny tv show mixed in with a little bit of " uncle sam's misguided children's" humor but had to keep it rated g because of Fisher & Abby are here! Darn that hurt!:bigthink:
|
Sam , i'm not sure what your parts pile looks like (retirement home for old tractors ) but possibly grab a hood , grill & dash from some other cub , or fab it all your self !

Got the new engine today and swapped over the parts from the other engine. Latest plan is to put the new engine in Black Jack #1 and set it up with a deck and give that to my daughter and then finish up this other mess. I'll swap the hood, hood support and fenders so I don't have to repaint the whole thing. One thing I like is that the new engine does not have a shut down solenoid. Makes the wiring easy.
|
Got the engine swap all done. It fired up as soon as it got gas to the carb. Nice running engine. Oil pressure is a bit higher than the other engine. Guess the other one is worn just a tad. LOL
|
Hey bud, couldn't figure a way to keep the recoil start on it???? : ))

Well Sam, are you still playing with this tractor, or are you playing with another one? :bigthink:
|
Got the hood support/grill welded up yesterday. Waiting for a couple parts for the deck. Hope to have it done in the next couple days.

Well it's going to be Black Jack #2. Finished the hood and grill today and took it for a little test mission just to make sure it is good then pulled it apart for paint. Sort of a break in run. Used the flail mower on some grass that was over do for mowing. Now I'm just waiting for some parts for the 48" GT deck to finish this project.
|
Looks great Sam!
