First, :Welcome2: Glad to have you!
Have you changed the fluid and filter in this machine? Hydro pumps and gears rarely fail. What about the relief valves..... have you ruled them out? Will it not move in either direction? Is the fluid level ok? Lets start with all that. |
^^^ yup agreed. start with the simple and easy. these pumps are pretty much bullet proof.

Welcome to OCC! Good luck with your cub.

I agree, with the others. If it were damaged to the point of needing repair i don't think it would move at all, anytime.
|
the hydrogear pumps have a problem I remember some time back a dealer called me looking for a pump for mtd they needed one to fix somebodys tractor but do as suggested change oil and filter and see if that helps sometimes that's all that needed if not then your pump needs replaced and I think new ones are nla

The relief is external of the pump. Make sure that the lever you pull up on to move the tractor is not keeping it from working. You will have to look under it to see how it works.

Did you check to see if the charge pump is bad on the Hydro Gear? |
Sam Mac when we pull the rear we leave all the hydro connections on the rear. frame is same part no. hyd lines is the only thing I see that will be a challenge

I went the other way with a 1210. Put a 1440 rear in the 1210. That said what's the plan for a drive shaft? The 1641 has a CV shaft and the pump adapter is the fine spline one. Does the Sundstrand pump have the 5/8" round with the pin or the splined input shaft? Also the linkage for the shifter is different Hydro Gear VS Sundstrand. Not saying it can't be done just saying it's not just take one out and replace it with the other. |
I most times leave th couplers on the pumps so that will be there as we prolly have 30 or so of those pumps I was going to use a 1862 drive shaft which is a direct bolt in only thing that will need to be addressed is the hyd lift lines not sure if I have the 1862 hyd lift lines
|
Sounds like you have it covered.
|
I thought an 1862 was a Sunstrand and the 1863 was a hydro gear pump. Either way there should be a bunch of those pumps from the xxx0 and xxx1 machines available. If your just using the tractor for mowing an HG pump should be fine.
|
he is mowing on the side of a mountain I told him if you want to go the long haul put in a pump that will last and hydrogear is not it from what I have seen this is not the 1st time doing this for me
|
I agree Ray. I think the Sunstrand is better then the hg.
|
Not to hijack the thread but is there a breakdown of which models use which pump? I thought they were all sunstrand pumps so this is news to me.
|
Later models use Hydro-gear. I don't know when exactly they switched.

It's mixed up in that series. The 1440, 1641 both had B&S engines in them and the 1863 had a Command engine that used the HG pump, all others had Sunstrand. It must have been a cheaper hydro unit and that is why they put them in those tractors.
Here is a pic of an 1863 HG pump that I had for a short time. It was a nice machine that another member on here has now. The block that the lines go to is the relief on these and they also have a lever that you pull up to relese the transmission to move it. |
