Wow, that top engine looks brand new!!! If you want an easy way to clean off that build up, I have found that Super Kleen (purple bottle) from Wal-Mart is a super degreaser---even better than Easy Off oven cleaner. Just don't get any on your skin as it will remove all of your oil and dry out your skin. Keep up the good progress!

Nice work cubcadet
Hopefully it will make a difference in how it runs :beerchug:

Make sure to check the warp on that head, Nick. Looks like the compression ring was blown on one side. Don't want any failures!:beerchug:

fleetlines 07-07-2013 12:18 AM

Hopefully that will take care of it.

What's there in the pic to indicate a blown compression ring?

Well, in the pic of the head. Notice how there is a ring all the way around it that appears shiny? It's where the compression ring that's made on the gasket was sealed. At the top of the pic, notice how that ring dulls, and the surface appears black to the outside edge of the old gasket? The compression ring looks like it was just starting to leak right there.

cubcadet 07-07-2013 07:16 AM

yea, it was starting to leak

Cubcrazy 07-07-2013 02:18 PM

ok guys, update: we cleaned and sanded the bottom of the head , installed a brand new head gasket and put everything back together and torqued the head down , now we have to install the carb and gas tank and put in new points , and hopefully it will run smooth, it liked to break up bad at high throttle :bash2: making progress though:beerchug:

darkminion_17 07-29-2013 12:21 PM

Nick don't forget to re torque the head after you run it and let it cool.

ACecil 07-29-2013 12:33 PM

Appreciate the update, Nick.

cubcadet 07-29-2013 12:36 PM

cubcadet 08-10-2013 09:09 AM

the 123 is done, new points and head gasket, doesnt break up anymore, problem was it was over revving due to throttle cable in too far :bash2: fixed now :beerchug:

ACecil 08-10-2013 10:39 AM

Glad you got it fixed, Nick.

jbrewer 08-10-2013 11:06 AM

I'd have thought the governator (governor) would have controlled that.... no?

cubcadet 08-10-2013 01:18 PM

yea john, we adjusted that too :beerchug:

Cubcrazy 08-10-2013 02:50 PM
