Hydro Driveshaft

Working on the 149 I noticed that driveshaft coupler on the pump has a lot of play in it. It's causing the driveshaft to turn out of alignment with a lot of vibration. It appears to be worn badly where the roll pin goes thru the pump shaft & driveshaft coupler. Not having any experience with the hydros, I am wondering what the tolerance for this connection is.

0. None. They should be tight! Otherwise, you get a vibration...

Thanks J-Mech, I thought it should be pretty tight otherwise I think it'd knock seals out or something worse. I removed the coupler from the pump & the roll pin was worn almost thru on one side, the holes in the coupler for the roll pin are badly worn, the bolt holes to connect the coupler to the drive shaft are worn some & the hole in the center of the coupler that the driveshaft fits in is very badly worn. Looks like its been ran a while on badly worn parts. Looks like a new coupler will be purchased, any suggestions on where to get one??

Holy crap! That stuff is SHOT! What's that last pic of? The short shaft pic. Did you cut the driveshaft?

I rebuilt mine with the welder and drill press. No more wobbles

The last pic is the roll pin. I didn't cut the driveshaft, I just unbolted the two couplers & slid the round rubber plate out then removed the coupler from the pump.

Yes those parts are worn badly & know the levers & linkages aren't any better, I figured these parts were a little more important to fix first.

macman81, I've been thinking about that. Seems to me that the ends & the holes for the roll pin would be where the wear is. It'd be worth a try if it doesn't work I'll just buy a new one.

New couplers are about $55.00 from cub cadet.
How is the end of the driveshaft look?

darkminion_17, the driveshaft has the other coupler welded to it & the shaft coming out of the pump looked ok, the roll pin still fit tight. It's just a lot harder metal.

How is the tip on the end of the drive shaft?
Here is one off a 129

darkminion_17, I'll remove the driveshaft tomorrow & get a pic of it. I didn't get a real good look at it last night.

I gotta take tonight off, it's the wife & mines anniversary. I think working on the cubs would be a perfectly good way to celebrate but I can't sell her on it!!!
