Mower Drive Belt Jumping Off
 

Hey Guys,

The mowers is all cleaned up and painted. Wheels all cleaned up and painted with new tires all the way around - doubled my investment right there!! It still keeps throwing the drive belt. I threaded the adjustment rod further to make it tighter - no good! The pulley on the right side is not very well aligned with the clutch - like the belt goes a bit sideways to enter the pulley. It is most likely not the pulley assembly for the tractor so some finessing might be in order. I have pictures but the computer I am using does not have any way to edit them down to size. Any thoughts guys?:beatdeadhorse:

What model cub do you have?

It is a. 125. I pulled the roll pin out and was able to move the right pulley more in alignment - mowed a new record 60 feet before jumping. I hope to be able to get photos edited and up tomorrow.

A problem that I have had before is.

Due to wear on the many pins and holes associated with the lift, the front of the mower deck can begin to start pointing downward. This will cause the center pulley to become out of line with the belt, this distortion is very visible if you get back a couple of feet and look at the center pulley with the belt attached.

You want to talk about useless - some clown got a virus on my other computer so no pics for the foreseeable future as that one has the software to edit pictures down to size. I think the deck tilt may bear fruit will check it at lunch. I did hard weld a couple of the pins - may need to do a few more!!

I have a 1541, and mower belt kept jumping off. I have 3 decks, and two mule drive/hangers etc. After switching around everything, a new belt etc it ended up being the front main bearing on the engine.... You can feel the bearing is bad, and it makes some racket at certain rpm, but very little. It took me awhile to catch it, after swapping the engine to a low hour M18 no more deck belt problems... I guess the vibration some how transferred to the deck belt.

I added a belt guide by the deck pulley on my 42" cast end deck to keep the belt from jumping off the pulley. It's simply an 1/8" plate and a cut off 5/16" bolt. The belt hasn't come off yet.

All I am going to say on this issue is that something is wrong. Do you think Cub could have sold these if the belt came of every 60’? :bash2:

Are you running the correct width belt? It takes a 3/8" wide belt. My 100 had an "A" width 1/2" belt when I got it and since it didn't fit into the deck pulley deep enough, it kept coming off. After the belt fell off and got cut by the blades, I went to the Cub dealer and got the correct Cub belt. I've been mowing with it for 3 or 4 years now and the belt hasn't come off yet.

Yes It is the right belt, and I replaced the center spindle bearing at the same time. And yes I know a Cub should mow more than 60 feet at a time, I spent my formative years of 12 - 14 mowing with a 100 every summer for hours on end. That was 40 some years ago, so it is most likely cumalative wear of the deck mounts, althought the front bearing issue sound intriguing, would not have come up with that one right away. At this point the backhoe is coming off the Kubota and the Landpride will get the majority of the mowing done, althought it does not fit in the vineyard which was what the cub was tasked with. Thanks for the help everyone, I was looking for known belt jumping problems and some of you were very helpful with that..

Are you using a Cub Cadet belt........or an aftermarket belt...???

Well it turned out to be several things that contributed to the nose of the deck being out of alignment. First the hanger bolt on closer inspection was a welded up DIY shouldered bolt - that needed to be treaded down to get the full adjustment. Did that on the hottest day of the year. The frame that goes into the hangars was worn enough that it had to be hard welded & reground to take up more slop. The cadet belt ended up breaking during all the trials and was replaced by a Dayco low HP belt that looks much beefer than the IH P/N (Dayco GPL L481 if anybody needs one - it is cheaper than IH too). After spraying last night Lily (as in Lily of the Vineyard) did a fine job mowing between the rows of new Cabernet vines. Pictures will be forth coming - thanks for the help guys!
