Well I thought most of you guys would like to see this and most will think it is a shame as I do. Where I work they have this Farmall Cub that was at one time converted into a forklift....no big deal right?? WRONG!! The serial number is 502!! If I'm not mistaken they started at 501.

The picture isn't very detailed, but it almost looks like a Farmall BN.

someone correct me if im wrong....but i think IH made some forklifts using cubs back in the day. i thought i remember seeing a few here and there in my travels.

I think they did and john deere did the 420 also ford 2-8-9N, Im sure there were others.

Definitely a cub engine and cub hood/fuel tank. I don't know if they ever made anything like that from the factory. Usually special made equipment had different serial number tags or modified stamping to the tag. So it might be a home made deal with cub #2 used.............

Under edit: after looking at the tag again, it appears there's a PP stamped on there as well. Hmmm.........

That's a Farmall Cub. What a shame on such an early one.

PP should stand for powerplant so it was probably the 2nd power plant cub built turned into a forklift.

I have driven a fork lift that was a farmall cub.

IH Made a lot of fork lifts out of tractors using a "reverse operation kit" I have a 47 Farmall Cub serial number 529, you are correct the beginning serial number is 501.

drglinski 04-30-2013 05:53 PM

Yeah, but if it wasn't a forklift it would probably have made it into a scrapyard by now.

IH sold a lot of incomplete chassis to vendors that finished them I have a harlo 560 forklift made from a mix of standard and farmall 560 parts and I even have the harlo IH service and parts manuals. On the serial numbers when IH sold these chassis I think they started the serial numbers at 501 I have seen a chrimsom ryder bean picker super c in ny with serial no 501 and seen a few since that had higher numbers but they always had a suffex or prefix code as well and to know what those are you needed the info from the one book which I at one time had but since sold Before I was a cub cadet salvage yard I was a farmall salvage yard and saw some neat stuff In my mind IH was the best built stuff bar none
